Boys Soccer
Columbia Central 8, Manchester 1: The Golden Eagles remained undefeated in Cascades Conference action at home Monday. Eli Hawley finished with four goals and two assists. Dylan Stiles, Auden Kennedy, Carter Hackworth and David Munro each scored one goal for CCHS. The Golden Eagles are 5-0 in conference play.

Grass Lake 3, Jonesville 1: Warriors improved to 3-2-1 in Cascades Conference play with the road win. Emmanuel Kongste, Gunnar Harbottle, and Adam Fautsch scored for Grass Lake. It was the first varsity goal for Fautsch.

Onsted 5, Hillsdale 1: The Wildcats earned a road win in Lenawee County Athletic Association play Monday.

Ypsilanti 3, Jackson 1: Wyatt Green of Jackson High School scored on a penalty kick in the first half for the Vikings.

Girls Golf
Jackson at Clinton Redwolves Invitational: Jackson High School finished seventh in the 18-hole event scoring 496. Emery Waldron finished fifth overall with 102 for Jackson. For complete results of the Clinton Redwolves Invitational go to https://www.iwanamaker.com/event/214398.

Concord LMIGG jamboree: East Jackson finished second overall in the nine-hole event at Concord Hills Golf Course scoring 296. Haley Stimer of Concord earned medalist honors with a 48, teammate Mya Barrett was third scoring 57, and Rachael McArthur of East Jackson placed fifth with a 63. I-8 Jamboree at Pennfield: Marshall finished third (416), Western was fourth (418), and Northwest finished sixth (441) at Pennfield. Anna Thompson of Marshall finished fifth (90), Ava Webb of Northwest was eighth (95), and Jillian Barnes of Western finished 11th (98). Northwest 6, Coldwater 2: The Mounties swept the singles competitions with wins by Nathan Cumings, Reed Clark, Bode Rush, and Levi Youngman at Nos. 1-4, respectively.

Hestwood wins TOC, season-long golf title

Watching Jackson area golfer Riley Hestwood stroll down the fairway is like watching someone on a slow, summer walk.
Hestwood approaches the game of golf like he doesn’t have a care in the world.
That relaxed attitude may have helped Hestwood this season as he won the Tournament of Champions Tournament Sunday and the yearlong Honor Roll Player of the Year championship as part of the Jackson Amateur Golf Tour.
Hestwood shot a 3-under-par 69 at Arbor Hills Golf Club Sunday to win the tournament by one stroke. The invitational-only tournament included 23 of the top 30 players in the field.
Zach DeFrain and Brandon Kulka tied for second with 70s in the tournament, and Brian C**n, Greg Zeller, Steve Maddalena, and Mike Raymond tied for fourth shoots 1-under-par 71s.
Hestwood was leading the points standings heading into the final tournament of the season.
“There is more in life that just golf,” Hestwood said about his attitude on the course. “I am blessed to be able to play golf on the weekends.”
After shooting a 1-under-par 35 on the front side, Hestwood birdied three-of-five holes down the stretch. It was highlighted by hitting his tee shot within 2 feet on the 217-yard par 3 17th hole.
Hestwood got his season going into full motion by winning the Jackson City Championship at the Country Club of Jackson in June.
“That is my favorite tournament of the year,” Hestwood said. “It was nice to play well at CC of J.”
Hestwood won $150 for winning the tournament and earned his second Player of the Year title.

Hestwood finished the 2026 season with 837.5 points on the Honor Roll listing. Zach DeFrain was second (685), Brian C**n finished third (672.92), Bret Valkuchak placed fourth (559.17), and Nick Reynolds was fifth (556.67).

Bearden, Swihart win JCWGA Honor Roll titles

Ashley Bearden won the Jackson County Womens Golf Association’s Honor Roll in the Red Division as the top golfer in 2026.
Kathy Swihart won the Silver Division title for golfer 70 years and older in the JCWGA.
Bearden breaks the stranglehold held by Andrea Clark for the award.
In 2026 Bearden won the Medal Play Tournament at Hills Heart of the Lakes Golf Course and the one day meet at Burr Oak Golf Course.
Swihart won the Medal Play tournament, Cascades event, the JCWGA Match Play championship, the one-day event at Calderone, and the event at Burr Oak Golf Course in the Silver Division.
Top 10 finishers in the Red Division were Cheri Tarpley, Pam Messerly, Deb Falk, Andrea Clark, Nikki Weeks, Anne Faucher, Anna McCubbins, Kittyanne Latocki, and Shelley Christoff.
Top 10 finishers in the Silver Division were Janice Haynes, Judy Eddy, Sandy Fisher, Peggy Parrott, Nancy Showerman, Barb Smith, Sue Daniels, Kathy Gabriel, and Jan Poupard.

Diesing, Norton earn POY on Mercer Tour

Leighton Diesing of Chelsea and Brayden Norton of Jackson earned Players of the Year on the R.W. Mercer Jackson Junior Golf Tour for 2026.
The two earned the awards based on points earned during the 2026 golf season.
Diesing won three tournaments late in the season to claim the top prize in the girls’ division. She won the tournament at Lakeland Hills, took the City Championship at Sharp Park, and took the win at Arbor Hills.
She is a senior at Chelsea High School and the top golfer on the Bulldogs’ girls golf team.
Consistency was the name of the game for Norton. He tied for first at Lakeland Hills and Calderone, was second at the City Championship at Sharp Park, tied for second at Arbor Hills, and was third at Deer Run to open the Mercer Tour season.
Norton is one of the top players for Jackson High School and a state qualifier.
Scholarship winners on the Mercer Tour are expected to be named next Sunday at the Hall of Fame event.

Addison at Airport Quad: Addison lost to Erie Mason 25-20 and 25-15 in one of the matches.

Columbia Central, Jackson, Northwest at Mason Invitational: The Mounties lost to Ovid Elsie in one match; Columbia Central defeated Ovid-Elsie, split with Jackson in two sets, defeated Jackson in bracket play 2-1, defeated No. 1 Sturgis, and lost to Mason in the finals; and Jackson defeated Ovid-Elsie, split with CCHS, and lost to Mason 2-0. Lydia Sanders led CCHS with 40 kills, Brooke Petosky finished with 62 assists, and Mara Henry added 36 kills and 27 digs.

Concord at Blissfield: The Yellow Jackets went 2-0 on the day with wins over Sand Creek and Blissfield. Bradie Lahman had 18 kills and 25 assists, Annie Saenz recorded 35 kills and 32 digs; Layla Claus registered 22 assists, and Phoebe Byler tallied 15 digs for Concord.

Tekonsha at Climax-Scotts: Tekonsha defeated Will Carleton 25-18 and 26-24 in one match.

Girls Cross Country
Homer Invitational: Homer finished third in their own invitational Saturday. Molly Johnson of Homer was second (23:11) and Grace Gillin finished eighth for Addison (24:49).

Homer Invitational: The host school finished fourth (118), Addison placed fifth (128), and Jackson Prep sixth (140) in the eight-team competition. Max Barron of Tekonsha was second (17:38), Ethan Huff of Homer was third (17:39), and Thomas Bastian finished fifth (18:51). Boys Soccer
Onsted 9, Michigan Center 5: Brix Bumpus and Sawyer Murphy both scored hat tricks for Onsted. Arrone Santuari also scored a pair of goals for the Wildcats.

Royal Cup at Jackson Christian: The Royals defeated Clinton 4-1 and Will Carleton 5-1 to win the Royal Cup.

Marshall 4, Brandon 0: Charlie Monaweck, Max McCormack, Devin Olson, and Carson Clapper all scored in the first half for the Redhawks. Sam Krueger scored his fifth shutout of the season and Marshall has won 4-of-5 games.

Adrian 2, Northwest 0: The Mounties lost at home in non-conference action Saturday.

Eaton Rapids 5, Columbia Central 1: The Golden Eagles’ modest three-game winning streak comes to an end on the road Saturday.

Western 2, Vicksburg 2: The Panthers tied Vicksburg on the road Saturday.

Boys Tennis
Mason Invitational: Jackson, Northwest, and Marshall competed in the eight-team event split up into two divisions. Truong Huynh won three matches at No. 1 singles for Jackson to claim the title; Reed Clark won two matches for Northwest at No. 2 singles good for second place; Dean Haroff of Marshall won a pair of matches at No. 3 singles to claim third place; Jack Marsh/John Hazen won two matches for Marshall at No. 1 doubles for third place; Jaeden Lincoln/Gabriel Falsini won two matches at No. 2 doubles for second place; and Jack Runkel/Ethan Scott finished fourth at No. 4 doubles for NWHS.

Girls Swimming
Jackson at Mason Invitational: Jackson High School came in sixth out of 10 schools at the Mason Invitational scoring 301 points. Ava Martin won the diving (236.2) and teammate Jullian Dawson was second (192.50), Julia Bickel was second in the 100-yard freestyle (1:01) and third in the 50-yard backstroke (34.6), and Lyla Dawson won the 1-meter synchronized diving (89.35) and teammate Olivia Machnik was second (71).
