The Joy of Curiosity
- Nikita Gill
Do you remember those days
when every day brought you
a new quest, a new story, a new fact,
when you were unafraid to ask why,
a thousand times why,
the way magic sparkled in your eyes
every time you learned something new
like an octopus has 3 hearts,
and there is a sandstone formation
that looks just like a wedding cake,
and there is a kind of jellyfish
which is immortal.
Remember that joy when you learned
something for the first time -
like why is the sky so blue,
what made the grass green,
what do you mean there is an island in Japan
where the cats outnumber the people?
It is a kind of courage, is it not?
To be able to open your mind
and to embrace your curiosity
whether you are 2 or 82.
Forever learning because language
and knowledge belongs to us all.
It is all a kind of joy, I believe.
To look out your window in awe
at the world and think,
what new astonishing, beautiful things
will I get to learn about you today.
