🐛Happy National Be Nice to Bugs Day!

🐞Today is a reminder that although these critters are small, their purpose is mighty! Bugs are essential to maintaining healthy ecosystems in our parks, even if some look icky.

🦋If you cross paths with a butterfly, caterpillar or beetle, show them a little kindness. After all, they’re just out here living their best bug lives, one flutter and wiggly step at a time!

Let freedom take flight and celebrate Fourth of July with a flock of red, white and blue!

🐦With feathers painted in red, white and blue, these fluttery friends can often be spotted at OC Parks throughout Orange County.

This vermilion flycatcher with its neon red feathers was photographed at Mile Square Regional Park in Fountain Valley. Vermilion flycatchers can be found in the southwestern United States all the way down to northern Chile.

White snowy egrets, like the one in the second photo, can often be found in Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve since they thrive in shallows of wetlands and marshes.

Western bluebirds show off brilliant, blue-colored wings and faces that are easy to see whether they’re perched high in trees or down below hunting for insects on the ground.

Be sure to keep an eye out for these flittering friends on your next visit at OC Parks.

✨Have a fun and safe holiday weekend!
