So grateful that KC’s rainy weekend petered out and our “Oneness in Nature Circles - KC” was able to honor the Summer Solstice during the sunset hours on Sunday. The group all came together by connecting with nature through a “gratitude nature scavenger hunt”, a cleansing water ritual, a fire ceremony and a snack feast with summer treats including Rev. Annika’s Solstice Sun tea. Thank you to all of you for participating and co-creating our sacred space together. Wishing everyone a summer filled with nurturing activities. IN 5 DAYS, JUNE 21, THE SUN RISES AT ITS NORTHERNMOST POINT OF THE YEAR.

And three civilizations on three separate continents built monuments aligned to this exact moment — without writing to each other, without sharing maps, without any contact at all.

STONEHENGE — England — 3000 BCE
On the Summer Solstice, the first light of dawn passes precisely through the Heel Stone and strikes the Altar Stone at the center. Not approximately. Precisely. The builders tracked the Sun for decades before placing a single stone.

CHICHEN ITZA — Mexico — 600 CE
El Castillo pyramid at Chichen Itza is aligned so that on the solstice, the shadows of the steps create a descending serpent pattern on the northern staircase. The Maya tracked the solar year to within 17.28 seconds per year using naked-eye astronomy alone.

CHACO CANYON — New Mexico — 900 CE
The Anasazi carved a spiral petroglyph into a cliff face at precisely the position where a dagger of sunlight pierces the center of the spiral at summer solstice noon. Three stone slabs create the effect. It was discovered in 1977.

Three continents. Three cultures. Separated by millennia and thousands of miles. All watching the same moment in the sky.

In 5 days, that same moment arrives again. The Sun will reach its northernmost point at 8:25 UTC on June 21.

What is it about the sky that made humans on every continent stop everything and build something permanent to mark it?

This is so true for me.

I just don’t think I’m looking for the big moments in life anymore. It’s more the simple ones that make for a beautiful day now. Like the sun rising and the moon dancing and the wind singing and the leaves grooving, and kids laughing and music playing, butterflies twirling, heart-smiles and me being present to witness all these little beautiful things ❤
