Three Senior-Level Opportunities Worth a Closer Look

If your next career move needs to reflect the full scale of your leadership experience, not simply your job title; these three opportunities caught my attention.

The first is a Nuclear Engineer, NN-04, with the Department of Energy’s Deputy Administrator for Naval Reactors. With a Washington, DC salary range reaching $197,200 and an NN-04 band equivalent to GS-14/15, this is a highly specialized opportunity for an engineering leader with experience across nuclear propulsion, technical requirements, contractor oversight, safety, and complex program environments. The announcement also emphasizes technical and written communication, and the first two pages of the resume receive structured technical review.

The second is Peraton’s Senior Director – Technology Program Manager in Washington, DC, with a target salary range of $229,000–$366,000. This role calls for 18 years of experience, enterprise IT program leadership, federal DOT experience, ITIL knowledge, executive-level government engagement, organizational leadership, contract management, and the ability to lead complex infrastructure and service environments.

The third is Salesforce’s Program Executive – Senior Director, Consumer Goods and/or Manufacturing. It is a U.S.-based remote role with approximately 25% travel and a base salary range reaching $304,700 nationally and $332,600 in certain higher-cost locations. The role centers on enterprise transformation, executive client relationships, program P&L, delivery governance, large-scale teams, and strategic technology implementation.

Here is the strategic thread I see across all three: senior-level opportunities require you to make the scale, complexity, business impact, and leadership scope of your experience immediately understandable.

Your career marketing needs to connect what you have done with what the organization needs you to accomplish next.

For the DOE role, that means demonstrating technical depth and specialized engineering experience. For Peraton, it means showing enterprise-scale technology leadership and federal customer credibility. For Salesforce, it means translating transformation, consulting, executive influence, and delivery leadership into measurable business value.

The opportunity is not just finding a role that matches your background. It is positioning your background so the decision-maker can quickly see the connection.

𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗡𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗠𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗮 𝗝𝗼𝗯 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲

I came across three opportunities that caught my attention because each one calls for a strong combination of technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to operate at a higher level.

If you have been thinking about your next move, I would look beyond the title and ask a more important question: Does the way you communicate your experience make the connection between what you have done and what this organization needs obvious?

𝟭. 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳 𝗣𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 — 𝗩𝗔 | 𝗟𝘆𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗡𝗝
Are you a psychiatrist with strengths in clinical judgment, medication management, interdisciplinary collaboration, and Veteran-centered care? This GS-15 opportunity offers $270,000–$285,000, telework eligibility based on agency policy, and a telemental-health component.

The position also lists EDRP eligibility, federal retirement and insurance benefits, substantial paid leave, malpractice protection, and possible CME reimbursement.

𝟮. 𝗣𝘀𝘆𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 — 𝗩𝗔 | 𝗠𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗵𝗶𝘀, 𝗧𝗡
This GS-14 opportunity is particularly interesting if your background combines psychology with program leadership, resource management, staff supervision, quality assurance, and organizational problem-solving.

The salary range is $145,643–$189,342, and the announcement remains open through September 30, 2026. The role is not remote and includes significant responsibility for translating organizational goals into controlled, measurable operations.

𝟯. 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 — 𝗦𝗔𝗜𝗖 | 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻, 𝗩𝗔
If your background is in federal business development and capture, this one deserves a closer look.

SAIC is seeking someone who has demonstrated success winning large, complex federal prime contracts exceeding $100M. The role offers a target salary range of $200,001–$240,000, hybrid work, and responsibility for leading multiple pursuits across civilian markets.

Here is the career-marketing point I would not overlook:

Your experience needs to tell the story of the level at which you operate.

For a senior federal or private-sector opportunity, listing responsibilities is not enough. Your positioning should make your scope, decisions, leadership, outcomes, and value visible.

That is especially important when your experience spans government, military, healthcare, consulting, or federal contracting and you are trying to translate that experience into a new opportunity.

The right opportunity is only part of the equation.

How you position yourself for it matters, too.

Right now, someone is looking at your LinkedIn and deciding whether you're worth a phone call, and they've never met you.

A recruiter reads your profile one way. A hiring manager reads it another. If you're a consultant, coach, entrepreneur, or service provider, potential clients and referral partners are reading it too, often before they ever pick up the phone.

Recently, I recertified as a Nationally Certified Online Profile Expert (NCOPE) through the National Résumé Writers' Association, and it confirmed something I've taught for 30+ years: keywords get you found. Clear positioning gets you chosen.

I broke down who's really reading your profile, and how to make every section work together, in this week's blog. Link below.

Three Senior-Level Opportunities Worth a Strategic Look

If you are evaluating your next career move, I want you to look closely at the kind of value these roles are asking someone to bring, not just the title they carry.

01 | Senior Director, Marketing Strategy & Intelligence — GEICO

Are you a strategist who can move comfortably between customer insight, analytics, brand, storytelling, growth, and emerging AI capabilities? GEICO is building a new Marketing Strategy function, and this role serves as a key advisor to the CMO and thought partner to the executive team.

The opportunity is based in New York City with a hybrid work arrangement and lists a salary range of $195,000–$315,000. The role also includes leading a team of 3-5 strategy and insights professionals.

One preparation question: Can your career story demonstrate that you have shaped enterprise-level decisions, not simply produced strategy documents?

02 | Procurement Analyst, GS-1102-14 — U.S. Department of Justice

If your strengths include federal acquisition policy, procurement oversight, strategic advising, and translating complex acquisition requirements into actionable guidance, this GS-14 role deserves attention.

The position is in Washington, DC, offers $143,913–$187,093, and is telework eligible but not remote. It is an open-continuous announcement with a July 26, 2027 closing date and an initial cutoff 14 days after the announcement opened.

Here, your career marketing needs to make your policy expertise tangible. Show where your guidance changed an acquisition decision, strengthened a process, or helped leadership navigate complexity.

03 | IT Specialist (APPSW) Network Architect — Social Security Administration

For an experienced technology leader, this GS-15 opportunity presents a very different kind of challenge.

SSA is seeking network architecture expertise across complex data center and enterprise environments, including planning, design, implementation, troubleshooting, executive-level coordination, and solutions to critical systems problems.

The role has locations in Denver, Urbana, Woodlawn, Durham, and Wilkes-Barre, with locality-adjusted salary ranges and a September 4, 2026 closing date.

The strategic preparation point is important: specialized technical experience must be explicitly documented. Your materials need to make the scale and complexity of your technical leadership immediately clear.

Three roles. Three very different career stories.

But the same principle applies: your experience becomes more valuable when you can clearly connect it to the decisions, problems, outcomes, and organizational priorities the role requires.

That is where magnetic career positioning matters.

Three Career Opportunities Worth a Closer Look This Week

Every week, I review opportunities across the private sector and federal government, looking beyond job titles to identify roles that offer meaningful career growth, leadership potential, and the chance to make a measurable impact. These three opportunities stood out because each requires experienced professionals who can bring strategic thinking, sound judgment, and specialized expertise to complex environments.

The first opportunity caught my attention for professionals who thrive at the intersection of analytics, operations, and business strategy. Microsoft's Senior Channel Operations Manager role is ideal for someone who enjoys turning data into decisions, improving operational efficiency, and collaborating across sales, marketing, supply chain, and partner organizations.

If you've been looking for a position that combines AI-enabled decision-making, enterprise visibility, and meaningful influence over business outcomes, this could be worth exploring.

For experienced attorneys interested in public service, the FBI Attorney (Privacy and Civil Liberties) position offers the opportunity to help shape legal guidance supporting some of the nation's most important investigative and intelligence activities.

Attorneys in this role advise leadership on constitutional protections, privacy laws, policy development, and emerging legal issues while helping ensure government operations remain aligned with complex legal and ethical standards. It's an outstanding opportunity for someone who enjoys solving difficult legal challenges while contributing to national security.

The third opportunity is especially compelling for psychiatrists seeking meaningful mission-driven work. The Bureau of Prisons Psychiatric Physician Direct Hire announcement offers nationwide opportunities for physicians committed to providing behavioral health care, treatment planning, and continuity of care within the federal correctional system.

With multiple locations available and promotion potential through GS-15, this announcement may appeal to physicians looking for long-term career stability while making a direct impact on patient care and rehabilitation.

As you explore opportunities like these, remember that qualifications alone rarely tell the entire story. Hiring decisions are influenced by how effectively you communicate your value, demonstrate measurable impact, and position your experience around the organization's priorities.

Your career documents should clearly connect your accomplishments to the challenges the employer is trying to solve—not simply list responsibilities.

Whether you're considering a move into the private sector, advancing within federal service, or exploring a new leadership path, approaching the process strategically can make all the difference.

I hope one of these opportunities helps you move closer to your next career chapter.

Krista taught for 26 years. When she decided to leave the classroom, she figured she'd have to start at the very bottom of the federal ladder and work her way back up.

She was wrong, in the best way.

Luckily, she was never invited to a federal interview. Instead, she found us and joined the Get H.I.R.E.D. Success System™.

Krista was referred to hiring managers at the GS-12 and GS-13 levels.

In her words, her resume was night and day different.

She landed her first federal interview about 6 weeks after submitting her first resume, and a second interview offer followed soon after.

That momentum carried into her federal interview prep too. Camille walked her through a full mock interview beforehand. In her own words: "It was calming, it was thorough."

Her message to anyone reading this and feeling skeptical: "Don't give up. Have confidence in yourself. Trust the process, keep working it, and you'll get where you need to go."

If you've spent decades building a career and you're not sure how it translates into your next one, that's exactly what we're here for.

After surviving a plane crash, I spent months in the hospital and a few years in physical therapy and rehab. I used a wheelchair, then a cane, and getting to my office meant navigating 17 stairs. At the same time, I was leading 35 employees on a Department of Energy contract.

That constraint was not going anywhere. What I could control was how I interpreted it and where I directed my energy.

That experience taught me something I now see play out constantly with the leaders and executives I advise, especially around AI right now: a real limitation may change your route, your pace, or the support you need. It does not determine the value you are capable of creating.

In my latest article, I walk through the 4 types of constraints every leader runs into and the 5-step process for finding the responsible path forward, without waiting for perfect clarity that may never come.

Applied to a federal cybersecurity job with 70,000+ other candidates? Here is what to do while you wait to hear back.

The announcement has closed. Now the waiting starts, and at that volume of applicants, it could be weeks or months before you get an update. That does not mean your job search should pause too.

While your application is in review, keep your options open:
- Set up Saved Searches in USAJOBS so you can be alerted of new announcements.
- Turn on LinkedIn job alerts for the titles and agencies you want most.
- Build a magnetic resume, one written to position you, not just stand out.
- Keep applying. One application in review is not a full job search.

You cannot control how fast the review moves. You can control what you do while you wait.

Read the full checklist and the magnetic resume strategy behind it on the blog, link in comments.
