There’s a gentleman at HB Sports Complex you can’t miss. He’ll tell you so himself: “I’ll be in the golf cart with the big ‘Marshal’ sign on the windshield.”
His name is Chip Marchbank.
Four decades as an athletic trainer. Northwestern. The LA Rams. The U.S. Olympic boxing team. 41 years at Golden West College. Most people would call that a full career.
Then his son asked him for one more thing: be the face of this special place.
So now, while his crew works fields at five in the morning for an eight o’clock game, Chip makes his rounds — greeting families, solving problems before anyone notices them, remembering the name of a player he watched compete years ago.
“It’s not just softball. It’s about creating an experience people will remember.”
And if you ask him why he still does it, even at 77, his answer is simple: “My concern is keeping the people happy. That’s what I promised my son I would do.”
