Inaugurated in 2014, the Year of the Horse, the Lunar New Year Marathon is the first culturally themed running event of its kind in the US. The event has a different theme every year, with each year carrying one of the twelve Zodiac symbols of the lunar calendar. Hosted in Houston, one of the largest and most ethnically diverse cities in the US, the mixed race/expo/festival event takes place in th
e middle of the culturally vibrant International District and has great potential to grow into an international attraction boosting Houston’s tourism, social and economic development. The event has become also a source of cultural celebration and civic pride to many community members in the District who welcome the opportunity to participate in the Lunar New Year Celebration and make a positive impact in their communities. Registration for the inaugural 2014 Lunar New Year Half Marathon, 5K, and 1K Family Run will open at noon (CST) on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at www.LunarNewYearMarathon.com. The half marathon, 5K and 1K events will be held on Sunday, February 23, starting and finishing at Leroy Crump Stadium in Southwest Houston. Registration will be open to the first 5,000 entrants.
