We just finished Advanced Choreography this weekend, wrapping up Phase 1 of Kinected Apparatus Training. Phase 1 isn’t just learning the exercises, it’s about understanding why they’re taught, when they’re appropriate, how to modify them, and how to safely teach them.
Three weekends of movement, observation, cueing, hands-on practice, and plenty of learning. Looking forward to seeing this cohort continue to grow as we move onto Phase 2.

Parakeet is so much more than a bridge. 🦜
Each progression layers on a new challenge while demanding that the previous one never gets lost.
✔️ Segmental spinal articulation
✔️ Posterior chain strength & coordination
✔️ Standing leg stability
✔️ Dynamic knee stability
✔️ Active plantar flexion—all the way to the toes
It’s not about making the exercise harder. It’s about maintaining precision as the demands increase.
That’s where strength, control, and coordination come together.

Current favorite use of the stability sling because it provides both support and information.
In bridging, the sling helps facilitate the movement strategy needed for hip extension by supporting pelvic lift and encouraging anterior hip glide.
As we progress to single-leg bridge, the sling provides feedback when the pelvis begins to rotate or lose its connection as the base of support changes.
The goal of support isn’t to make an exercise easier. It’s to make the movement clearer. Once the body understands the strategy, the support can gradually be reduced.
This is why I love props - using the right tools can help people find better movement.

The goal isn’t to chase complexity. It’s to develop the strength, control, and coordination that make these movements possible. It’s the result of patience, practice, and a strong foundation. Every progression has a purpose.

Weekend one of Apparatus Teacher Training is complete. ✔️
We spent the weekend learning equipment setup and safety, along with beginner choreography on the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel, and Spine Corrector.
I’m so grateful to share the Kinected curriculum with this dedicated cohort at Houston Ballet. They worked incredibly hard this weekend, and I’m excited to watch their confidence and teaching skills continue to grow.
Looking forward to continuing this journey together over the coming months.
