Advanced riders still belong on the lunge line.

My years of experience have shown me that we should never graduate from working on our own position.

I will often put even very advanced riders on a lunge line—not because they cannot ride, but because removing some of the responsibilities of steering and managing the horse allows us to study the rider more precisely: balance, alignment, symmetry, breathing, coordination, independence of the hands and legs, and the ability to follow the horse without interfering with him.

And I am never ashamed to have a colleague put me on a lunge line. Developing the seat is a lifelong practice.

Here at Mythos Farm, we really are a family of like-minded, caring people. And whenever a significant other shows up for a lesson, spends time at the barn, or simply takes an interest in the journey with the horse, I am particularly touched by it.

Because that support matters.

Frank has been every bit a part of Geronimo’s success, wellness, and journey as Wendy has. And I am so proud of what Wendy and Frank have accomplished together with this horse.

Geronimo came to us as a former barrel racing horse whose future was uncertain. Today, he is thriving—his health optimized, his body looking incredible, and his confidence and well-being speaking for themselves.

And today, there was Wendy again: riding him ba****ck, beautifully balanced, quietly and correctly, showing just how far this partnership has come.

The journey may belong to the horse and rider, but the people who stand beside them can make all the difference.

Before there is mastery, there is preparation.

Every beautiful ride begins long before horse and rider enter the arena. It begins in the quiet work that few people ever see—the careful preparation of the footing, the attention to detail, and the commitment to creating an environment where both horse and human can thrive.

The same is true of life.

Mastery doesn’t begin with the ride. It begins with preparing the ground.

Whether we’re training horses, pursuing excellence, or building character, the foundations we lay in silence will always determine the beauty that follows. Those who understand this know that no task is ever “just another job.” Every thoughtful act is part of something greater.

At my home-based farm, Mythos Farm in Hopewell, we do everything we can, every single day, to make sure our horses are happy.

On days of extreme heat like today, with temperatures reaching 100°F, that means turning the barn into a spa. After a refreshing hose-down, everyone gets to enjoy the air conditioner—and watching them discover it has been priceless. They stand there with the breeze blowing through their manes, licking and chewing in complete relaxation, as if they’ve found their favorite new place in the world.

Yes, I spoil my horses. And I believe that’s exactly the way it should be. ❤️🐴

LIZCOS, our resident Lipizzaner stallion, has a few opinions about this week’s hot weather streak… but posing for photos has never been one of his complaints. 😄

In fact, Lizcos absolutely loves the paparazzi. Despite the uncomfortable heat, he’s always ready to strike a pose and be the shining star. And honestly… that’s exactly the way it should be. ✨🐴
