The foils got smaller. The athletes got better. But the challenge remains the same.

In 2018, 8 foilers lined up on the start line, and Armie and were two of them. Nobody knew yet what this race would become.

Now, over 100 competitors line up to race, matching the original disciplines and what started as a handful of riders has grown into an event of its own.

Armie looks back on that first year, how much the equipment has evolved since, and why the crossing still humbles everyone who tries it.
