The Art of Peace Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of aikido, practiced the art until he passed away in 1969 at the age of 86. AIKI is to win over the self.

Men, women, and children around the world enjoy aikido as a lifetime training with continuous personal growth. The Spirit of Aikido
The foundation of AIKI is love. It is the embodying the spirit of the heaven and the earth in one's heart, and the maintaining the great spirit of loving embrace for all, in order to fulfill one's mission, that ought to be the Way of the martial art. This does not me

On Friday, June 19, members of Aikido of Honolulu, Aikido Shinyukai, Hawaii Betsuin Aikido Club, and the University of Hawaii Aikido Club joined Nuuanu Aikido Club for a memorable evening of joint practice.
The night was filled with fun, fellowship, and excellent aikido as practitioners from across our community came together to train and learn from one another.
On behalf of Okatomi Sensei and all of our members, thank you for giving us the privilege of hosting such a wonderful event. We greatly appreciate everyone who attended and helped make the evening a success. We look forward to the next opportunity to come together on the mat and continue strengthening the bonds within our aikido community

Kotegaeshi is not a contest of strength.
It is a conversation written through movement a moment where resistance meets softness, and force is invited to continue on its own path.
The hands turn, the body yields, and balance quietly slips away. What appears to be a wrist technique is really a lesson in timing, awareness, and letting go.
Under the watchful eyes of Sensei, every repetition reveals another detail that was hidden before. The technique remains the same, yet somehow becomes deeper with each practice.
Like water finding its way around stone, Aikido reminds us that true power is not found in opposing force, but in understanding it.

The sensei watches in silence as bodies move like water across the mat, every fall a lesson, every breath a rhythm. In his eyes lives the calm of countless seasons, knowing that true aikido is not in the throw, but in the harmony left behind after it.

In Aikido, the bow is not merely a gesture, it is a pause between breaths, a moment where ego softens and respect takes its place. Before technique, before movement, before conflict, we bow: to the dojo, to our partners, to the art, and to the endless path of learning. In that quiet lowering of the head lives humility, gratitude, and the understanding that true strength begins with reverence.

Nikyo, the second teaching, unfolds like a quiet whisper beneath motion. It is not a clash, but a conversation subtle, precise, and inevitable. The wrist turns, not with force, but with quiet authority, drawing a line through balance and intention. In that small spiral, resistance dissolves.
There is a sharpness to nikyo, a fleeting spark of discomfort that demands attention, yet it is never cruel. It reminds rather than punishes. The body yields, not because it is broken, but because it understands #合気道 #合氣道 #ハワイ

In Aikido, size fades into the background, where presence and precision take the lead.
It’s not the weight of the body, but the lightness of movement a turning of hips, a breath in rhythm that transforms imbalance into control, and strength into something shared rather than opposed #合気道 #合氣道 #ハワイ
