Susan shares how she overcame the disappointment of an aborted paddle through fellowship and food at our Summer Solstice Celebration.
Saluting the Sun at Summer Solstice - Hui Waʻa Kaukahi
On some paddles, you go farther than others. Some paddles, maybe you don’t go far at all. It still counts for a few moments on the water. That’s my take, and I’m sticking to it.

Fantastic conditions for our round trip Summer Solstice Celebration paddle from Haleʻiwa to Laniakea. Light trade winds with no surf allowed us to paddle close to shore the whole way. More honu sightings at Haleʻiwa than Laniakea made us wonder what all the fuss is about "Turtle Beach". An ono potluck BBQ refueled us as we awaited sunset. A thick cloud bank on the horizon meant no green flash and a subdued end to the longest day of 2026, but the brief flaming clouds were cool. 😎

Roya Jue shares her experience kayaking from Haleʻiwa to Runway Beach in Mokuleiʻa. We had much better conditions than last year's workout.
Haleʻiwa to Runway Beach 2026 - Hui Waʻa Kaukahi
On the way to the North Shore we had a uh-oh moment when the rain started pouring down. Being the fearless paddlers we are, we kept going. Luckily, when we reached Haleiwa Beach Park it was a gorgeous island day.

Our regularly scheduled programming from Tracks to Pōʻkaʻī Bay was preempted by a Small Craft Advisory so we switched channels to a round trip from Tracks to Ko Olina. Smart choice...great substitute!
Tracks to Ko Olina 26
A round trip club paddle from Tracks Beach to Ko Olina. A beautiful day with a bonus naiʻa (spinner dolphin) encounter.

Makai Range to Kailua 2026 - Hui Waʻa Kaukahi
What a glorious day at Makai Pier—one of those “this is going to be amazing” mornings that slowly turns into “this is going to be a story we tell forever… because we survived it.”

After a month of canceled paddles due to storms and the pilau water aftermath, the club finally got back on the ocean going from the Makai Range Pier to the Kailua Boat Ramp with a stop on Moku Nui. The trades picked up and turned this normally easy cruise into quite a workout. Nadine captured the adventure in this video.

April showers...cause another canceled paddle. The Kaimalino to Popoiʻa paddle is off due to the expected heavy rain and brown water in Kailua Bay.

The club paid tribute to one of it's founding members, Gary Budlong, yesterday. Rusty presented him with an Elliot Wong engraved cutting board that reads, " Gary Budlong, Da Hui Kahuna, Mahalo for leading the intrepid way with the Hui Waʻa Kaukahi".

Looks like it's safe to get back on the ocean this Sunday! Join us on a relatively short intermediate level paddle around Leahi. This paddle is suitable for beginners who want to test their skills on the open ocean in gentle swells. Go to our website for details and to RSVP.
