Hawaii State Ballet

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our founder, John Landovsky. After an extensive international career sharing the stage with world-class dancers, Mr. Landovsky became an award-winning choreographer, teaching at numerous companies and universities. In 1983, he and his wife, Gina, established Hawaii State Ballet. His passion and dedication have inspired generations of dancers.

Mr. Landovsky possessed a captivating presence and could command any room. As a teacher, he was exacting, pushing his students to achieve heights they never thought possible. Those who were lucky enough to know him well experienced his softer side. He was extremely kindhearted, humorous, and acted as a second father to so many of us, providing unwavering guidance and support even into our adulthood.

Through his mentorship, generations of dancers learned to love the arts, work hard, and take pride in their accomplishments. He taught us the value of self-discipline, commitment, teamwork, and perseverance. Our Hawaii State Ballet family will carry on his legacy, striving to inspire our students just as he inspired us.
Mr. Landovsky, we’ll always remember you with so much love and respect. Rest in peace.
