That AED by your front desk. When's the last time anyone actually opened it?

Most hotels have one. Most of those have expired pads nobody caught, because the light still blinks green either way.

A thirty second check is the whole fix. We do it for properties across Hawaii every week.

Save this and forward it to your GM or ops manager today.

Have you ever checked the AED at a hotel you stayed at? Tell us below.

If someone collapses near you at the beach, here is the order that matters most.

Call 911. Start hands only CPR right away. Send someone for the nearest AED.

No training needed for any of it, just knowing what comes first. Would you feel ready if it happened today?

Three AED myths are still floating around Hawaii's beaches.

And one of them could cost someone the two minutes that matter most.

Water, rain, sand. None of them are a reason to hesitate with an AED when you witness a cardiac arrest. The devices are built for exactly these conditions.

Save this carousel. Share it with your beach ops team before the next event.

Are your staff trained on what to do if someone goes down on the sand?

Before your next beach day, a quick myth check.

You do not need training to use an AED, and anyone nearby can use one. The lifeguard tower keeps one in a hard case, ready to run to wherever it is needed. Every police, EMS, fire, and first responder unit that arrives on scene brings one too.

Do you know which tower is closest to your favorite beach spot? Drop it in the comments, we would love to know.

Working in progress

Most people walk past this every day without knowing what it does.

This is an AED. It can restart a heart during sudden cardiac arrest.

But owning one is not enough.

Expired pads. Dead batteries. A cracked cabinet nobody checked. These are the things that turn a lifesaving device into false hope.

At Institute of America, we inspect thousands of these across Hawaii so that when the moment comes, the device works.

Your building has one. When was the last time someone checked it?

04/05/2026

Most people have no idea what an AED inspection actually looks like.
It is not just glancing at a cabinet.
We walk the entire property. Every floor. Every AED. We check the device, the pads, the battery, the accessories, and whether your site is actually compliant.
At the end you get a full report and real options. Not guesswork.
One missed inspection is all it takes for a device to fail when someone needs it most.
If you cannot remember the last time your AEDs were checked, that is your answer.
Save this. Tag your safety manager. Or send us a message and we will come to you.
