Kalaupapa, on Molokai’s North Shore, is opening for tours by the National Park Service!

National Park Tours Update

For the first time, Kalaupapa National Historical Park will offer public tours starting July 9, 2026. The tours will be provided twice a week, and reservations can be made beginning June 26.

This tour is strenuous. Participants must be prepared to hike up to 8 miles in hot, humid conditions, including traversing the Kalaupapa Pali Trail in both directions (~3 miles one way, 1700 ft elevation change, equivalent to 20 flights of stairs and over 2000 steps).

Reserve on recreation.gov:
· Participants must be at least 16 years old.
· Reservation tickets are $20 per person with a $1 non-refundable ticket fee for each reservation.
· Reservations must be completed at least 24 hours in advance.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY! From Hawaiian Ultra Running Team and Na Ala Hele:

Nā Ala Hele (NAH) is partnering with HURT to begin its annual extensive clean-up on Maunawili Trail. Saturday, June 20 will be the first work day of three or four.

If you can help on June 20, please sign up and spread the word! The HURT ‘ohana and NAH staff greatly appreciate your support.

Expect to see further information on the plan (including meet-up location and time) from NAH sometime the week before the work day.

Volunteer work will include:

Cutting back vegetation
Grubbing and trail tread repair
Constructing and maintaining water diversion features
Clearing and unclogging drainage (water bars / culverts)
Moving logs and rocks
