Yup

Chapter 1

This was me.
33 years old.
Standing in a robe at the Women’s Breast Center waiting for my very first mammogram.
I took this picture because somehow...
I knew it would mean something someday.
I was also sending my sister live updates because that’s what we do.
A week earlier I was lying in bed watching TV with my husband. I couldn’t get comfortable on my side and remember thinking,
“Jeez... how big have my b***s gotten that I can’t even lay on my side anymore?”
So I ran my hand across my chest.
And there it was.
A lump.
I grabbed my husband’s hand and said,
“Feel this.”
Now... if you know my husband, Captain Pootski, he’s pretty go-with-the-flow about life.
But not this time.
It was Saturday, and he made me promise I’d call my primary care doctor first thing Monday morning.
I spent that entire weekend doing what most of us do.
Touching it.
Pretending it was probably nothing.
Then touching it again.
Trying to convince myself that at 33 years old, breast cancer wasn’t even on my bingo card.
But if I’m being honest...
I think somewhere deep down...
I already knew this might change everything.
Monday morning my doctor got me in immediately for an ultrasound and mammogram.
This picture was taken after my ultrasound.
What you can’t see is that just a few minutes later the radiologist walked into the room.
He looked at me and quietly said...
“I don’t like what I’m seeing. We need to do biopsies.”
And the tears came.
If you know me personally...
You know I cry about once every century.
Respectable adults ugly cry in the shower where no one can see them.
🤣
But not that day.
That day...
I knew.
Not that I had cancer.
But that life was about to become divided into two chapters.
Before this picture...
And everything that came after it.

The biopsy... and the phone call that came on April Fool’s Day. 07/28/2026
