Wildcats Claim Runner-Up Finish at Heritage Conference Golf Championship

NEW ALEXANDRIA, PA - The Homer-Center Wildcats battled through extremely wet conditions Thursday afternoon at Mannitto Golf Course in New Alexandria, putting together a strong performance to finish second at the 2026 Heritage Conference Golf Championship.

Heavy rain poured throughout the morning, but fortunately stopped before the championship got underway. Although the golfers were able to play without the rain falling, the course remained extremely wet, creating challenging conditions for the entire field.

Homer-Center posted a team score of 335, finishing runner-up behind West Shamokin, which captured the conference championship with a score of 328. River Valley finished third with a 356, followed by Northern Cambria with 377 and Portage with 448. Conemaugh Township and Conemaugh Valley also competed in the championship.

Reece Coy led the Wildcats with a 79, earning third-place individual honors. Cole Sorber turned in an outstanding 81 to finish fourth individually. Jordy Arone carded an 87, while Ty Steffey added an 88. Aiden Darr finished with a 90. River Valley’s Brady Doak was the 2026 Heritage Conference Champion with a 74, while West Shamokin's Carson Carnahan finished second with a 76.

Wildcats Continue Strong Season with Victory Over Ferndale

JOHNSTOWN, PA - The Homer-Center Wildcats continued their impressive 2026 golf season Thursday afternoon, defeating the Ferndale Area Yellow Jackets, 193-251, at Berkeley Hills Golf Course in Johnstown. The victory improved the Wildcats to 10-2 on the season, while Ferndale Area dropped to 4-9. The match was played over the front nine, which measured to a par of 34 due to recent storm damage.

Leading the way for Homer-Center was Reece Coy, who turned in a remarkable 35 to earn match-medalist honors. Coy also recorded two birdies and finished the round with just 17 putts. His 35 was a new season-best score for the Wildcats.

Ty Steffey also posted a season-best round, carding a 38. Jordy Arone followed with a solid 39, while Aiden Darr finished with a 40, and Cole Sorber rounded out the five scoring golfers with a 41. Will Farabaugh also competed for the Wildcats and recorded a 46.

The round came under challenging circumstances as recent storm damage has affected Berkeley Hills Golf Course. Large trees and limbs were damaged throughout portions of the course, creating a noticeable reminder of the severe weather that recently moved through the Johnstown area. Despite the damage, the Wildcats remained focused and put together another strong team performance.

Homer-Center's victory marks another strong step forward as the Wildcats enter the season's final stretch. With a 10-2 record and several golfers continuing to post season-best rounds, the team appears to be building momentum at an important point in the schedule.

Following the match in Johnstown, the Wildcats made a special stop at the Johnstown Incline Plane. Today marked the first day the historic attraction was operational following a six-year hiatus while repairs were completed. The stop gave golfers a memorable way to cap off a successful day on the course while experiencing one of Johnstown's most recognizable landmarks.

Wildcats Split with Northern Cambria in Separate Boys’ and Girls’ Competition at Chetremon

CHERRY TREE, PA - The Homer-Center Wildcats took to the fairways at The Chetremon Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon, with both the boys’ and girls’ teams competing against Northern Cambria. The match brought together 41 golfers, 25 from Northern Cambria and 16 from Homer-Center, making for a busy afternoon of high school golf.

The Wildcats came away with a split, as the Homer-Center boys defeated Northern Cambria, 214-227, while the Northern Cambria girls topped Homer-Center, 158-186.

The match was held at The Chetremon Golf Course in Cherry Tree, a historic course that dates back more than 100 years. The picturesque course winds through the rolling countryside of Western Pennsylvania and features tree-lined fairways and several water hazards. Chetremon’s front nine is a par-36 layout, and its unique configuration provides challenges for golfers of all skill levels.

The Homer-Center boys improved their record to 9-2, and continued their strong season with a 214-227 victory over the Colts. Reece Coy, Jordy Arone, and Cole Sorber all carded a 41. Noah Todd continued his success with a 43, and Aiden Darr and Elliot Drew both recorded 48s.

Northern Cambria was paced by Luke Blickenderfer, who captured match-medalist honors with a 39. Parker Maseto followed with a 43, while Ace Drumm, Anthony Mountain, Cayden Paronish and Simon Meese rounded out the Colts' lineup.

The Wildcats also received several notable performances from their alternates. Ty Steffey led the way with a 40, while Louie Rodman (45) and Aaron Mattini (62) both posted season low scores. The round also featured a memorable milestone for Chase Arone, who notched his first career birdie in spectacular fashion, chipping in for a two on the par-3 eighth hole.

In the girls' competition, Northern Cambria posted a 3 golfer team score of 158 to defeat Homer-Center's 186. Sarah Neff led the way for the Colts with a 52 and earned match-medalist honors. Emma Neff and Ava Paronish each finished with 53s, while Sophia Sheredy carded a 56 and Elle Karheim shot 59.

For Homer-Center, Julia Fabin led the Wildcats with a 58, followed by Brianna Birchall with a 63 and Solen Cachet with a 65. While the girls' team did not get the team victory, the afternoon provided another valuable opportunity for the young Wildcats to gain experience on a challenging course and compete against a large field.

With 41 golfers filling the course, Tuesday's match showcased not only the competitive nature of the Homer-Center and Northern Cambria programs, but also the continued growth of high school golf in the area. Homer-Center would like to thank Northern Cambria and The Chetremon Golf Course for hosting the match.

Wildcats Gain Valuable Experience at Indiana Country Club

The Homer-Center Wildcats experienced a different kind of victory Friday afternoon, not on the scorecard, but in the lessons learned on a challenging and unfamiliar course.

Competing in a four-team match at Indiana Country Club, the Wildcats finished with a team score of 216, placing third behind Indiana Area (203) and West Shamokin (211), while finishing ahead of Armstrong (228). While the Wildcats did not produce their best golf of the season, the round provided a valuable opportunity to gain experience on a course they had not played before as they prepare to enter the championship portion of the season in two weeks.

Playing the front nine, the Wildcats faced a layout that presented a different set of challenges than the courses they have become accustomed to during the regular season. Indiana Country Club's well-maintained layout provided an excellent test for a Homer-Center team that is still learning how to adjust when playing an unfamiliar course.

Reece Coy led the Wildcats with a 38, earning team-medalist honors while recording an impressive three birdies. Noah Todd turned in a strong 39, which is his season best. Aiden Darr shot a 44, Cole Sorber a 47, and Jordy Arone a 48. Elliot Drew rounded out the Wildcats' scoring with a 54. Indiana Area's Chase Force claimed overall match-medalist honors with a 37.

Although the Wildcats were unable to match some of the impressive scores they have posted throughout the season, Friday's round provided something that could prove even more valuable: a chance to learn.

As the Wildcats transition into championship season, the courses and conditions will become increasingly demanding. Learning how to adjust to unfamiliar layouts, manage difficult holes, and stay composed when things aren't going according to plan will be an important part of their postseason preparation.

The Wildcats may not have had their best day on the scorecard, but their third-place finish and the experience gained at Indiana Country Club could prove valuable when the stakes get higher, and the championship courses become even more challenging.

Wildcats Stay Perfect, Battle Through Soft Conditions to Defeat Conemaugh

BLAIRSVILLE, PA - The Homer-Center Wildcats continued their unbeaten run Thursday afternoon, defeating the Conemaugh Valley Blue Jays 203–302 on the front nine of Chestnut Ridge Golf Course. While the weather cooperated with pleasant conditions during the match, heavy rain earlier in the day left its mark on the course, creating softer fairways and greens and making an already challenging layout a different test than usual. Despite the altered conditions, the Wildcats remained steady throughout the round and improved their record to a perfect 7-0.

Leading the way for Homer-Center was Aiden Darr, who fired a 38 to earn match medalist honors. Darr's round was particularly impressive given the conditions, as he navigated the front nine in just 18 putts. Reece Coy followed with a solid 39, while Cole Sorber posted a 40 and contributed two birdies. Ty Steffey added a 43, while Jordy Arone and Elliott Drew finished with rounds of 43 and 44, respectively. Arone and Drew each added a birdie to the Wildcats' total.

Homer-Center also received solid efforts from its alternates. Noah Todd and Will Farabaugh both posted a 45. Jett Housholder and Mason Kunkle each finished with 54s. Farabaugh's 45 was a season-best round for him. Solene Cachet, another Homer-Center alternate, also recorded a season-best score with a 61.

Conemaugh Valley was led by Jaxson George, who shot a 52, followed by Landon George with a 55 and Ryder Podrasky with a 58.

With the victory, the Wildcats remain unbeaten at 7-0 and continue to establish themselves as one of the area's strongest high school golf teams. Thursday's round was another example of the team's ability to adjust to whatever conditions the course provides.

Homer-Center will travel to Indiana Country Club on Friday for a quad match with Indiana Area, Armstrong, and West Shamokin.
