Caprock Raceway/Penwell/Odessa

Attention SWSC Racers! I need a current list of all SWSC teams that plan to attend the SWSC event @ Caprock Raceway/ Penwell/ Odessa October 2-3. If you haven't confirmed since our last event in Albuquerque and you plan on racing at this last points event for the season with the Southwest Superchargers, give me or Sue or Don a message this week before Sept 26 so we can get a current list to Chris Graves or the management at Caprock.
I have confirmation of Garry, Luke/Joey, Steve/Rodney, Jeff, and a racer we haven't seen since last year from Pueblo, Mike McCoy and his altered. But that's only 5. Who else? Let's get that car count up for our last race of the year. Jason? Bucky? Otis? Al? Wayne/Steve Vang? Buck? Gilbert? Sing out! Let me hear from you, please!
We will make one qualifying pass Friday eve, and the rest of our event Saturday. This is a "Flashlight Start" race except for us and the match race between Ray Stringers "Blown Cent-less" funny car and "The Dominator" no-prep door car.

MCCLURE PUNISHES SWSC FIELD

The Southwest Superchargers made beautiful supercharged alcohol noises during perfect New Mexico weather September 4-5 @ Albuquerque Dragway. Jeff McClure of Kress, Texas took home the winners share at the end of the day.

Seven SWSC faithful took to the Albuquerque pavement late in the day Friday to begin qualifying. First up was the ever-present r.e.d. of Ft. Worths own Garry Coufal and his all-aluminum 427 bbc. His opposition in the first pair was "The Instructor" Rodney Ferguson driving Steve & Toni Meiwes' big block powered car. Both represented the SWSC well with Garry making a nice 4.708/149.90 to Rodneys 4.585/153.64, just under the official SWSC index of 4.60. Pair two consisted of the "Second Amendment Car" of Phil Duran, Jr. the stars 'n' stripes altered vs. Luke Myricks blown small block old school front engined dragster. Side-by-side pass produced a 5.283/129.38 for Duran and a 5.485/120.87 for Luke. SWSC Points leader Jeff McClure and his big motor/small blower combo made a loud run and went 4.672/153.22. Finally in Q-1 Phil Duran Sr. in his steel Camaro met Paul Roybal with his small block altered from Santa.Fe. Both made light runs of 6.113/112.28 and 6.660/97.87 respectively.

Q-2 fired up as Ferguson met Roybal. Rodneys chart -topping 4.712/150.35 outran Pauls much-improved 5.337/128.98. Myrick made a 5.368/123.46 against Phil Duran Sr. 6.050/111.39. Phil Jr. displayed no time against Garrys 4.653/150.70. And Jeff went alone to run a 4.658/150.40.

A little addition and subtraction action revealed what we knew all along. #1 Qualifier on the SWSC Elimination ladder was the Meiwes dragster driven by Rodney Ferguson, with a pass just .015 off the 4.60 index. #2 was Garry Coufal at .053 off. Then #3 Jeff McClure with a close .056 off index. #4 Phil Duran Jr. was .683 off. #5 was Paul Roybal, .737 away. #6 on the chart Luke Myrick was .766 off. And Phil Duran Sr. in his small block Camaro was #7 and 1.450 off the index.

Rd 1 of Southwest Superchargers Eliminations kicked off with #2 Coufal calling out #7 Duran Sr. Phils valiant 6.331/104.92 was no match for the dragsters 4.693/150.20. Next #4 Phil Jr fired to face #5 Roybal in a nice small block altered vs. small block altered confrontation. Duran got the stripe when he made a 5.084/139.84 to Pauls close 5.234/133.02. Pair 3 was the dragster of #3 McClure vs. #6 Myrick. Myrick made a respectable 5.454/121.36 but Jeff went 4.836/126.8 for the win. #1 Rodney Ferguson made his obligatory bye and ran a full quarter mile. so no time in the eighth mile.

Rd 2 saw McClure meet Coufal. Now these two were up for this run. Garrys r.e.d. made a great pass of 4.647/150.85 only to lose to Jeffs quicker 4.613/147.3. Phil Duran Jr. brought his altered to face Ferguson. Phils 4.950/140.54 was just behind Rodneys 4.770/128.38 (BRAKES!).

The Southwest Superchargers Final went off under perfect racing weather around 10:00 p.m. Jeff McClure got the win with his 4.618/137.49 to Rodneys closest of the event 4.626/153.32 . Now that's a Southwest Superchargers Pass! Very nice, all. The Albuquerque fans loved you!

🏁 It's Race Time!! 🏁

The SWSC is headed to the Labor Day Bash at Albuquerque Dragway on September 4–5!

The Southwest Superchargers will be part of this high-adrenaline weekend, kicking things off with two rounds of qualifying on Friday night alongside the exciting Outlaw Altered show and Jet Cars!

Then on Saturday night, the Southwest Superchargers return for three rounds of eliminations, promising plenty of side-by-side action and excitement.

This is a great opportunity for our class to put on an outstanding show for the fans, so let's make it count!

SWSC Albuquerque September 4-5 2026

Yeah, you read that right. SWSC CEO Don David has been hard at work burning up the phone lines (and airwaves) searching for a place to race for the SWSC in September. And he found it! Albuquerque has agreed to host us September 4-5, Labor Day weekend. We will make two qualifying passes Friday. Gates open @ 4:00 p.m. Qualifying at 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Then we will go right into eliminations Saturday. Gates open @ Noon, then we will have our elimination runs starting @ 6:00, Semi-final @ 8:00 and SWSC Finals @ 10:00 p.m. Good work, Don! We will be the under card (so to speak) behind a fuel altered show, but soo glad to have a race in September. Tune up and load up, we're going racing!

Our hoped-for date of August 8 at Caprock is OFF. Didn't happen. Track management didn't respond positively to Dons request for an event for SWSC. Don is fervently trying to get us a date in September as we speak. Watch for news of that. But every string Don and I pulled to get as race in August broke. So...
Cheer up, Racers of the Southwest Superchargers, we will continue to hold our heads high and do our best on track everywhere we appear for our organization. Stay tuned for the latest, and remember we still have one confirmed date in Caprock/Penwell October 3. See you there!
