My Journey: Strength, Hope, and the People Who Carried Me
In July 2023, my life changed when I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I went through 12 rounds of chemotherapy and got down to 84 pounds.
On April 18, 2024, I had a five-hour Whipple surgery. It was a long and difficult journey, but I was fortunate to have an amazing medical team. Through the toughest times of the journey, my family and friends were my strongest support team. Their love, strength, and encouragement carried me through when I needed it most.
I am now part of a clinical trial at UPenn. Knowing that I am being monitored with CT scans gives me hope. If the cancer ever returns, I know I will be treated right away. That gives me a sense of comfort and allows me to focus on moving forward.
I initially joined Burn because my daughters belonged. But I soon realized that I needed Burn to get stronger.
If you see me in the gym, youโll notice that I modify some of the workouts because of neuropathy. Iโve learned to listen to my body and do what I can. The important thing is that I keep showing up.
I am so grateful for the trainers who encourage me and help me modify the workouts when needed.ย ย ย Iโm grateful for my daughters and their support, and Iโm grateful for everyone at the gym who has encouraged me along the way.
Burn has become more than a gym to me. It has become a place where I feel supported, challenged, and strong.
I am still here. I am still fighting. And I am stronger than I ever thought I could be.
