That perfect float you see on social media didn’t happen overnight. 🤍

Behind that one beautiful moment is consistency, patience, trust, repetition, and a committed parent.

ISR is not about simply putting a baby in the water and expecting them to magically learn to float. Skills are taught progressively and adjusted to the child’s age, development, abilities, and needs.

And sometimes… it’s not pretty.

There may be tears. There may be resistance. There may be days where the progress feels so small you wonder if it’s even working.

But those tiny steps add up.

It means prioritizing lessons.
It means showing up consistently.
It means trusting your instructor and following the DOs & DON’Ts.
It means understanding that convenience isn’t always the same thing as skill-building.
And sometimes, it means staying committed even when your baby doesn’t seem to love the water yet.

Because the child who once cried during lessons can become the child who runs to the pool asking:

“Where’s Caro?” 🥹

That’s the part you don’t see in the perfect Instagram photo.

You see the float.

We see the journey. 🤍

And remember: swimming lessons are only one layer of water safety. Constant supervision, barriers, CPR knowledge, and appropriate life jackets when needed are still essential. No child is ever drown-proof.

But did you know… Your child’s swimsuit color can actually matter. 👀💦

Not just for cute pictures — visibility is part of water safety.

Some swimsuit colors can become surprisingly difficult to see underwater, especially when the pool is busy, the water is deep, or there are reflections and shadows.

For better visibility, look for bright, high-contrast colors like:
🟠 Orange
🟡 Yellow
🩷 Bright pink
🔴 Red

And remember: being easy to see is not the same as being easy to supervise. A swimsuit can help you spot your child, but it never replaces active, close supervision.

Little details matter around water. 💙

Would you have thought about swimsuit color as a safety factor?

Nevada’s water safety reality 💔

Here’s something every Nevada parent needs to hear before another summer day around the water:

In Southern Nevada, 39 pediatric submersion incidents were reported in 2025 alone. More than 80% involved children ages 0–4, and 70% happened at residential homes. (https://www.fox5vegas.com)

And drowning doesn’t look like it does in the movies. It can be silent, quick, and happen while an adult is nearby. Nevada officials have even reported drownings occurring when a parent was within just 10 feet of their child. (https://www.fox5vegas.com)

The Southern Nevada Health District reminds families that drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1–4. (Southern Nevada Health District)

So what actually helps?

✔️ Constant, undistracted supervision
✔️ A properly secured pool barrier
✔️ CPR knowledge
✔️ Teaching children water survival and swimming skills
✔️ Knowing what to do if a child reaches the water unexpectedly
✔️ Layers of protection — never relying on just one

Swim lessons don’t replace supervision. A fence doesn’t replace supervision. And water skills don’t make a child “drown-proof.”

Layers save lives.

If you have a little one around pools, lakes, bathtubs, or any body of water this summer, make water safety a priority before you need it. ❤️

Recently, my daughter and I were talking about all the little things you learn when you spend every day caring for a child, and it really made me think about how important these little details are.

When you care for a child full-time, you naturally learn their own little language.

Her son says “eckle” for turtle, “memi” for mango, and screams “EEEE!” when he wants his toothbrush. “EEEE ON!” means he wants the electric toothbrush turned on. 😂

To someone else, those words might sound like complete nonsense. But to his mom and dad, they make perfect sense.

And that got us thinking…

When a child spends their days with different people—parents, nannies, grandparents, daycare providers, babysitters, etc.—how often do we actually communicate these little things?

Because these details may seem insignificant, but they can make a HUGE difference.

A toddler can know exactly what they want, have their own way of saying it, and become completely frustrated when the person caring for them doesn’t understand.

Sometimes the tantrum isn’t “I’m being difficult.”

It’s “I’m trying to tell you something and you don’t understand me.”

That’s why I think it’s so important for the adults in a child’s life to share these little discoveries with each other. The funny words, the gestures, the sounds, the preferences, the things they learned that day.

And as an ISR teacher, this really hit home for me.

I only get a short amount of time with each child. I learn their swimming skills, their strengths, what we’re working on, and what helps them during their lesson—but there is SO much more to that child that I don’t know.

I may not know that “eckle” means turtle. 😂
I may not know their favorite song or comfort phrase.
I may not know the little sound they make when they want something.

But I want to know.

So parents, tell your child’s teachers these little things. They may seem silly or insignificant, but they help us understand the child behind the skill.
Because teaching a child isn’t just about teaching them what to do. It’s about learning who they are and how they communicate. ❤️

What’s something odd

Might ruffle some feather but I’ll be here… waiting for the haters… to educate them & make sure they understand😉

On a side note 🚨 A LOT of swim teachers CLAIM to do “survival lessons” “ISR” “self survival skills” BUT here’s the catch… ISR isn’t just a term, it’s actually a very specific certification.

There is extensive training, qualifications, and specialized education behind becoming an ISR instructor. It’s not something someone can simply add to their list of services because they teach babies how to swim or float. So.. no, your local lifeguard is most likely not ISR. The lady who charges less than half the price probably isn’t either and the random swim academy is definitely not either!

This is why we feel so strongly about educating parents on what they’re actually looking for. When you’re trusting someone with your baby in the water, you should know exactly what their credentials mean, who they were trained through, and whether their certification can be verified.

Make sure to go into the official ISR website to check certifications before booking! (In any state!) www.infantswim.com

Sorry not sorry 🥴🥴 also, it’s not always fun. Sometimes babies protest and don’t like what they are doing but the important thing is that he is still learning the skills to be safe in the water🫶🏼
