This behavior is extremely beneficial for puppies up to senior dogs, and it can be utilized in numerous contexts.

We're so excited to host our next puppy class this November! We’ve decided to honor our recently departed pup, Tater, by naming the class after him - Tater’s Tots - Joyful Foundations for Puppies.

Better yet, this is the very first time we are offering WEEKEND classes 😮 We know the winter can be hard with earlier sunsets and the weather more unpredictable. Therefore, our 11am Sunday time will provide anyone the opportunity to partake in our class.

This course is structured a bit different with opportunities for on- and off-leash experiences to build resiliency, coping skills, and socialization. We cap classes at 6 puppies to keep classes quaint yet provide tremendous opportunities for training.

❗For a limited time only, we are also offering a package deal for those interested in virtual assistance! Receive 2 virtual sessions AND the group class for just $450, a $560 value!

Puppies should be 8-16 weeks of age and up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations. Class is $260 and provides access to our virtual library (a $100 value)!

Service dogs have difficult jobs, and it requires a lot of brain 🧠power!

Lucy demonstrates a skill that seems easy, but it can be quite scary for many pups. "Under" is a cue we utilize to ensure dogs can tuck under chairs, tables, and more to stay out of the way of the public. A dark, tight area can prove quite difficult, but Lucy not only goes under, but she also follows through with a "sit" behavior, too.

September is National Service Dog Month!

We find it important to bring recognition to this special category of dogs, as their jobs are often misrepresented or under appreciated 😔

Service dogs fall into one of five categories: medical, mobility, psychiatric, hearing, or vision.

Here are a few quick facts 👉

👨‍🦽 Service dogs have NO federal certification or registration (all of those websites are scams...)

👨‍🦽 There are no breed restrictions or weight restrictions according to Americans with Disabilities Act

👨‍🦽 Service dogs are not required to wear any equipment or be labeled, although the state of Montana requires service dogs in training to be labeled

👨‍🦽 Handlers may not "look" disabled, but that doesn't mean they aren't silently battling challenges every day

🐢Since we've slowed down this year to prepare for this life change, we thought it would be fun to reflect on client successes over the last few years.

First, we found this amazing video exhibiting what hard work and training can accomplish. For dogs that will be off-leash, they need a strong recall, even in the face of distractions. This video is a picture (or video 😜) perfect example of a dog recalling away from another dog and remaining with the owner until released 👏👏

Equipment is an important aspect of training. Without a comfortable treat pouch, rewarding dogs in a timely fashion can prove difficult, and timing is everything. If our timing is off, we may reward the incorrect behavior!

It's easy to forget that our dogs need breaks, too.

🐶 Here are 3 signs your dog might need a break:

1️⃣ They suddenly start sniffing, wandering off, or avoiding interaction.

2️⃣ Their behavior gets more frantic. This can look like jumping, mouthing, barking, or zooming around.

3️⃣ They stop responding to things they normally know or enjoy.

Dogs don't always say, “I'm overwhelmed. I need a minute.” Sometimes we have to notice the subtle signs for them. Unfortunately, many owners see the above behaviors and believe their dog is purposefully ignoring them, when in reality, they just need a break.

A break isn't a failure. It's part of good training. 🐾 Even better, build breaks in for your dog so it's safe and structured.
