We know everybody is so excited to think about cooler temperatures after this summer, but even if you’re not ready to think about water freezing… it’s time for us to start thinking about our upcoming THIRD season of curling in Hayward!

We want to make you aware of a few things coming up. Please consider joining us!

Saturday October 3rd at 10 am we are going to have another club work day. We’ve got a few projects to be tackled, in the clubhouse, and in our (soon to be expanded) ice shed. Projects include:

- Hanging up our brand new amazing mural/sign by the fabulous Donna Post (you can see her work downtown at Art Beat!) on the facing of our clubhouse.

- Mounting our new House of Donors plaque inside the clubhouse.

- Removing workbenches and other items from inside the shed to prepare for building our ice.

Friday October 23rd in the evening is the start of the Rice Lake Social League - this is a wonderful opportunity for Hayward Curling Club members. Pay a $50 social membership to Rice Lake and join this once a month night from October to March. Beginner friendly, short games, free potluck. Sub opportunities are available, but we’d love to field 2 teams again. Please respond if you are interested in joining one of the 2 Hayward teams.

Monday November 2 at 6 pm we will be hosting our open house/season kick off. Come learn about the opportunities for curling for the winter. Get registered for the winter, sign up for a league, order some HCC Merchandise

Saturday November 7th is the Triples Spiel up in Superior, a specially created spiel just for the Superior and Hayward Curling Clubs. This is a low key very much, beginner friendly single day Spiel (the curling word for Tournament). Anticipate being there from around 8 am to 3 pm. Food is included!

Hayward Curling Club is proud to be a sponsor of the Musky Run from the Hayward Area Chamber of Commerce. Some of our members and participants in our summer fundraiser event, the Tricky Trout Paddle Triathlon, will be running the 5k tomorrow. If you spot one (wearing a BRIGHT GREEN TTT shirt!), ask them about the triathlon, and we'll get you a TTT Bucket Hat (limited to the first 5 people). It's not too late to sign up for Musky Run, registration closes on site at 8 am on main street. Hope to see you there! And of course, think about registering for the Tricky Trout - July 25th. We only have 15 spots remaining, so don't wait.

New this year, a chip timing system!

Thanks to a collaboration between Hayward Curling Club and Telemark Biathlon, we now have a portable, adaptable timing system that will be great for biathlon events as well as the Tricky Trout. At the end of your race, you'll see your total time on an LED Board, and race results will show your split times for each of the legs. If you are competing in a relay, your ankle chip will get passed to each participant to record your team's splits.

If you've been thinking about registering for the Tricky Trout, now is a great time!

Race Registration is $75. What's included in that?

- Racer transportation from staging to the start line
- Boat transportation to Hayward Curling Club for the after party
- Complementary food and drink ticket at the HCC after party
- Tricky Trout Dry Bag
- A day of beautiful scenery through the woods and waters of the Northwoods

Summer Volleyball is about to be in full swing at the Hayward Curling Club! Monday and Tuesday nights are league nights. Wednesdays at 6 pm there is pick up volleyball for people of all skill levels - this is meant to be a fun and not hyper competitive - no spikes in your face kind of volleyball. It is also family friendly. No alcohol will be served during the evening, and there is plenty of space for kids to play in the yard.

Our swag giveaway for all participants this year is a spacious dry bag! Keep your running shoes dry during your paddle, and then bring it with you on all your other many paddle adventures.

Did you know that Hayward Curling Club is available to rent? Have a birthday party, family reunion, or other event that you just need a nice space to use?

Event Rental Hayward Curling Club is available for rent for your special events such as graduation parties, reunions, corporate events, etc… We charge $100 for up to 4 hours rental, and an additional $25 per hour after that. Announcing our first Volunteer of the Year award winner. While we know the award isn't plural, the Beckel Family put so much work into the club this year, from cleaning of snow before curling nights, to helping with learn to curls, setting up the clubhouse when we moved in, helping with maintenance things... and the whole family chipped in. Lorelei might be little, but she can move snow, I tell you! Congrats and much appreciation to the Beckel Family!

Our Annual member meeting is tonight at 6 pm at the clubhouse! Members are encouraged to join if able, and non members are welcome to come hear about the club and our future plans.

In one week we will be having our annual meeting! We encourage all members if available to attend. We will be at the clubhouse, Sunday April 19th at 6 pm. We will take care of annual necessary business and discuss next year's plans!
