ISO: Good Horse Person
A Training Vision is looking for another good human to join our barn team. Horse care experience required. Attention to detail and a sense of humor strongly preferred.
We're a small dressage-focused training program in Haymarket, VA with a handful of school horses, wonderful clients, and very high standards of care.
Primary Responsibilities
• Feeding hay, grain, and water
• Turnout/in
• Blanketing
• Tacking horses for training rides
• Light stall cleaning (five stalls; the remaining horses live out)
• Administering supplements and medications
• Barn organization and general upkeep
Bonus points tied to additional opportunities for more hours and responsibility, include:
• Exercise riding
• Teaching beginner and novice riders
• Administering injections and basic first aid
• Tractor operation and arena dragging
• Taking on additional barn management responsibilities
• Farm maintenance like fixing fences, hanging buckets, etc.
The core of this position is weekday morning horse care. If you bring additional skills or experience, we’re happy to shape the role around the right person. Additional responsibilities and hours, like weekend and evening hours, are available for those interested.
Hourly pay ranges from $22–28/hour, depending on the skills, experience, and responsibilities you bring to the team. If teaching is something you enjoy, there's room to gradually build a small lesson schedule over time.
We're looking for someone who notices when a horse isn't quite right before anyone else does. Someone who closes gates, fills water buckets before they're empty, and understands that "good enough" usually isn't.
We also strongly appreciate the person who understands that horses will immediately put hay in clean water buckets, p*e in a freshly bedded stall, accept that halters have legs, and the ability to say, “Well, that could’ve gone worse.”
If this sounds like a good fit, we'd love to hear from you. Tell us about your experience, what you're looking for, and what you bring to the table.
