Ava has been putting in a lot of work this summer while also working around a previous shoulder injury.
One thing that has stood out about Ava is her consistency. During her previous swim season, she made it a priority to train whenever her schedule allowed, helping her stay healthy and continue building throughout the season.
Now, she’s had a strong summer of training, and I’m looking forward to seeing what she can accomplish during her junior year at Connetquot.

Best of luck to Erin Malizia as she starts her new job tomorrow!

Erin and I have trained together for 11 years across two different gyms. She’ll be the first to tell you she isn’t always “Inspired” to work out, but she understands the importance of exercise and sets a great example for her kids.

I genuinely look forward to the days Erin comes in because she makes me laugh harder than just about anyone. One of my favorite things about Erin is her ability to look directly at me while I’m demonstrating an exercise, completely ignore what I just showed her, and somehow come up with something totally different.

As a temporary goodbye until she has some days off, here are a few of my favorite Erin quotes:

1. “Adam, I’m not training for the f’n Olympics.”
After she didn’t come all the way up on the bottom portion of a rear-foot-elevated split squat and I told her she still had one more rep.

2. “Good, I wasn’t doing another one anyway.”
After I said, “Last set,” during single-leg hip thrusts.

3. “I just don’t care enough.”
After she got off the bike and I told her, “That’s actually a worse time than last time.”

Good luck, Erin. We’ll see you when you get a day off!

At Belding Performance, we believe there is no one size fits all approach to training.
Every athlete has different goals, needs, and experiences, so we build individualized programs and develop genuine, long term relationships with our athletes.
We believe being part of Belding Performance should be about more than just showing up and working out. We want to create a culture where athletes of all levels can support and challenge one another, build relationships, and grow both on and off the field.
That’s what makes Belding Performance different.

What does Ipsilateral mean? | Exercise of the Week

Same arm, same leg in front.

This is probably one of the most common questions I get whenever someone sees this word in their new program.
I really like this row variation because it connects the lower and upper body. You’re working through the front heel to create a strong connection to the ground, then tying that into the upper body pull.

Coaching Notes:
Set the cable at belly button height.
Set up with the rowing-arm side leg in front.
Row the cable in a controlled manner.
Allow the opposite leg to externally rotate at the hip, then return to a neutral, athletic stance.
Focus on staying connected through the front heel as you pull.

Leah Smith did a great job staying consistent this summer as she prepares to play softball at Mercy College, where she’ll be studying Psychology.

Leah is the type of athlete who shows up every day, doesn’t complain, and simply gets her work in. That consistency and work ethic will continue to serve her well on and off the field.

Good luck Leah!

Tough one for me as I have to say goodbye to Kate Schweitzer as she heads off to Rowan University
I’ve seen Kate 584 times over the last 3 years. That’s including all the 5:30am groups in-season and all days she came straight from practice or games. Her consistency is what helped her have an amazing 2 year run on the softball field.
Good luck Kate! I’m proud of you and can’t wait to see what’s next for you!

Exercise of the Week | Rotational Landmine Press

One of our more advanced landmine press variations as we transition into more specific, rotational work leading into the baseball season.

Notes:
• Work on transferring force from lower to upper body
• Coil into back hip
• Hold the bar with one hand and keep it tight to the chest without letting it drift far from the body
• Move the bar fast by exploding rotationally through the lower half
• If you don’t hear the bar and landmine attachment “click” and are using momentum instead of the lower than upper half then drop the weight down.

Happy Birthday Kim Babjak , the best mother and wife we can ask for. We love and appreciate you.
