A harsh truth about recruiting:
College coaches notice the things lazy athletes think don’t matter.
The body language.
The conditioning.
The recovery habits.
The discipline.
The consistency.
The effort when nobody’s forcing it.
That’s why two athletes with similar talent can end up on completely different paths.
One athlete treats development like a lifestyle.
The other only works hard when coaches are watching.
And eventually… that gap shows up.
Not just physically.
Mentally too.
Because disciplined athletes usually develop confidence differently.
They trust their preparation.
They handle pressure better.
They recover faster from failure.
They stay focused longer.
They don’t panic every time adversity shows up.
Meanwhile, athletes who depend on motivation struggle once the process gets uncomfortable.
That’s the part social media doesn’t show.
Everybody posts highlights.
Very few post the 5AM workouts.
The meal discipline.
The sacrifice.
The lonely routines.
The consistency it takes to separate from average.
One of the biggest lessons inside GOING D1: WHEN SKILLS & TALENT AIN’T ENOUGH is this:
Recruiting isn’t only about talent anymore.
It’s about habits.
Because coaches trust athletes who already show signs of discipline BEFORE they arrive on campus.
That’s why the little things become big things later.
And honestly?
A lot of athletes lose opportunities long before they ever realize why.
