A huge thank you to everyone who participated in, RO'd/volunteered, or otherwise made the Land of 10,000 Rounds United States Precision R***e Association IPRF World Championship qualifier/PRS Rimfire Regional Qualifier match presented by Athlon Optics and hosted by North Woods Precision R***e at Gopher R***e & Revolver Club, happen.
Hundreds of hours of stage design, stage testing, match prep, range prep, etc., was invested to make the fourth and final USPRA qualifier happen. We were honored to be considered for, and asked to be, Match Directors for something we each feel is a privilege to simply make the "short list" for.
From the outset, it was clear that anything less than testing the true and absolute abilities of the competitors would be considered less than ideal. Every stage had multiple stressors. Some competitors identified how to manage those and master the majority, while relenting on one or two. The best selected which to compromise on, while maximizing points on the others.
Nearly every stage was purposely designed as a "choose your own stressor" adventure. Many approached each stage with a thoughtful and tactile approach and squeezed out as many impacts as possible, stage after stage.
Beyond the designated course of fire, winds were predicted at 10-15 mph on day one, which typically translates to half that value down-the-range (with gusts generally meeting that value). Competitors were instead met with 10-20 mph sustained winds gusting to 30+ mph, all day long. Very turbulent air and rapidly switching wind directions made shooting with both eyes open a necessity. We commend those that maintained their composure and dug deep to grind it out in quite extraordinary conditions during day one.
True grit, and the highest integrity, is necessary when carrying the USA flag on your competitor jersey. Against all odds, multiple top competitors figured it out and pulled out a truly astounding 80+% impact percentage during day one conditions.
Day two was much more typical for this r***e range, with a dead calm morning escalating into a strong and turbulent wind mid-morning that arose at the snap of a finger, just to completely disappear two hours later and return to calm conditions for the final stages of the day.
For those that make Team USA, our hope is that you represent America in 2027 with integrity and honor while showcasing your incredible talents to the max. We want nothing more than to see Thor's hammer with a Team USA logo on it crushing all those who enter the arena!
We also hope all other registered competitors were tested by the match, enjoyed your weekend with us, and have take-away learning experiences what will improve your own skills and abilities, kit composition, and competitive nature.
Not to be forgotten, thank you to the incredible RO's/volunteers and sponsors, without whom this match would not have been what it was. We truly appreciate your dedication to the sport, your unwavering desire to create the best experience for our competitors, and your generous donation of time and effort to ensure a fair and smooth match experience for all.
Additional match photos will be shared as soon as we have them processed.
GO TEAM USA!
