A little different message today from The Scuba Buddha today. It has been said that if you find a job that you love doing, you will never work a day in your life. I am extremely fortunate to be able to run a business doing something that I absolutely love. Scuba has changed my life and I love being able to help others experience what I love. The down side of loving it so much, is I have been running it as a true business, letting my passion take priority of the business. That being said, I will be publishing a price list for services, training, equipment rental, equipment sales etc. these will be for everyone.

The Scuba Buddha

There are so many different kinds of diving. One I have been talking about doing for several years now is sharks tooth/Megladon tooth/fossil diving. I finally had an opportunity to give it a try. I have to admit, I had an absolutely blast. I did a 3 tank dive charter with Fossil Junkies in Venice, FL. They did a great job from start to finish. This is my first time and they did a great job of showing me what the different possible fossils I may find looked like, ways of finding them, and checked everything I brought up to the boat after each dive, letting me know what each were. After that I did 2 days of shore diving right at the Venice Beach Pier. Overall I found 1 full meg tooth (top left) and several different sharks teeth. Not pictured, I also found a large amount of dugong bones and even some whale rib bones. I had an absolutely blast and can see myself going again in the future.

SDI just completely revamped their DPV training to include a new E Learning.

The Scuba Buddha is running a special on DPV training.

Typical cost for the e-learning, classroom, 2 OW dives, certification and rental of a DPV for the 2 dives is $400.

For the month of August only, the cost is $310. I will also include a 3rd dive, with the DPV to use, absolutely free.

Available dates are:

7-8-9 August at Diveland Park
21-22-23 August at Diveland Park
28 August at Diveland Park

Not included in the cost of training:

Entry fee
Equipment rental other than DPV
Gas fills

Classes can be up to two divers.

Insulation board in place, furring boards installed and gaps sealed. Looking ugly is fine since the next step is covering it all with double bubble radiant barrier.

A wonderful article on solo diving. This is a hot topic in the industry. Some believe you should only dive with a buddy. Others believe they are safer diving on their own with the proper training and equipment.

Even if you never plan on diving without a buddy, there is a lot to learn for you in this course. A few things to think about:

1. Instructors/divemasters. If you are teaching new divers, in an emergency do you honestly have a buddy to help you? If you are setting up the area you are going to be training in, do you always have a buddy helping. Even tying in an anchor line to the dive site is usually a 1 person job.

2. Do you travel and dive in locations where they team you up with a buddy you don’t know? Even with a buddy, do you want to rely on them to be there, and know what to do in an emergency? Who hasn’t experienced the “same ocean” dive buddy? The knowledge learned in this course will not only help you deal with such situations, but honestly make you a better dive buddy.

3. Who are the worst dive buddies? Underwater photographers and spear fishermen. If these are types of diving you do or are interested, this is a great course for you.

So what are the requirements. You must have at least 100 dives and be at least Advanced or advanced adventure diver.

Bigblue Dive Lights – The Brighter Idea

Scientists report a rare blue octopus near the Galápagos Islands. Marine teams record its unusual shape and bright color under deep water. Researchers say the animal shows traits not often seen in local species.

Ocean surveys continue across the region to map deep sea life. Each dive adds new records that expand known marine biodiversity. Public interest grows as footage spreads across research channels.

Marine biologists plan more dives to study behavior and habitat patterns. Findings may help explain how deep sea species adapt and survive.
