A fun piece of Grinnell - and Ahrens family - history! ❤️

The original Miracle Whirl was designed by John Ahrens and his son, Claude, right here in Grinnell in 1927.

Claude W. Ahrens helped grow Miracle Recreation into a leader in playground equipment, carrying forward a passion for recreation that would later become part of his legacy here in Grinnell.

Today, that connection continues at Ahrens/Paschall Memorial Park, where generations of kids and families continue to enjoy places designed for play.

We love seeing pieces of this history shared!

It all started in 1927 with the Miracle® Whirl. In every decade since, we've upheld the belief that every child deserves a place to play, discover, and belong. That idea has been passed down from generation to generation for nearly 100 years!

Seen here is a throwback to the Miracle Whirl in a 1972 catalog. It truly is the whirl that built a company! Do you remember the Miracle Whirl at your childhood playground?

The club took a vote tonight and decided to cancel this year’s Kites Over Grinnell event that was supposed to take place this Saturday the 26th. The forecast looks very rainy and in an effort to keep the professional kite flyers, volunteers, and attendees safe and dry we made the difficult decision to not have the event this year. We look forward to next year and hope that everyone has a safe weekend. Thank you for your understanding.

If the little ones are coming home from school with a mountain of bottled-up energy, bring them out to Ahrens Park to run it out on the playgrounds!
