⚽ Yes, we want players to scan, solve problems and make better decisions, but Tony Colbert raises an important question in our latest MSC Podcast: what if the decision a player makes is being dictated by what they can actually execute technically?

Tony’s argument is that players can recognize an opportunity but still choose another solution because they simply don’t have the technical “equipment” to execute what they see. That is why he believes purposeful repetition, two-footedness, first touch and technical activation still have such an important place in player development.

It’s a fascinating perspective from someone who spent 20 years at Arsenal and now works as a FIFA Technical Expert, and it challenges the idea that technical repetition and decision-making have to sit on opposite sides of the coaching debate.
