If you could know ONE thing about your body composition right now, what would you choose?
Body fat percentage?
Visceral fat?
How much lean mass you carry?
Whether you’ve actually gained muscle or lost fat since starting your current plan?
Drop yours below. 👇
Chances are, your answer is something a DEXA scan can help you measure.

This is exactly why body weight alone doesn’t tell the whole story.
His first DEXA scan in December gave him a baseline before he was working out. After making a major lifestyle shift and committing to a dedicated training program, he came back in August to see what had actually changed.
The scale? Up 2.3 lbs.
But underneath that number:
💪 +12.7 lbs lean mass
🔥 −10.3 lbs fat mass
📉 Visceral fat reduced by nearly half
These aren’t results we expect to see every day—but they’re a pretty incredible example of what can happen when someone goes from not training at all to consistently putting in the work.
If you were only watching the scale, you could easily miss just how much progress was happening.
Your first DEXA scan isn’t about having the “perfect” starting point. It’s about establishing your starting point—so when you put in the work, you have real data to show what changed.

For the past 11 months, Chloe has used DEXA scans to collect valuable data through contest prep, peak week, her reverse, and now her off-season. 📊💪
As a Fit Model competitor, she’s not just tracking where she is—she’s building a better understanding of how her body responds through every phase of the process. That data gives her and her coach more information to work with as they head into her next prep.
One scan gives you a snapshot. Consistent scans give you a story. 👏

One thing we’ve noticed at Triad DEXA…
Every single person who’s come in for their first DEXA scan after already starting their health and fitness journey has said some version of “I wish I had done this sooner!”
Not because they failed—but because they realized how valuable it would have been to have a true baseline from the very beginning. You can’t accurately measure progress from where you THINK you started. You can only accurately measure progress from the day you get your first scan forward.
If you’re waiting until you’re “in shape” to get a DEXA scan, don’t. The best time to establish your baseline was before you started. The second-best time is today.

From March to July, her goal wasn’t just to lose weight—it was to get stronger.
After losing over 100 pounds, she decided to take on a new challenge: Olympic lifting. Like many people, she wondered if she could continue improving her body composition while focusing on strength instead of the scale.
Here’s what happened:
• +1.0 lb lean mass
• −17.3 lbs fat mass
• −9.6% body fat
This is why we always say the scale only tells part of the story.
She lost body fat, gained lean tissue, and is in a better position to keep getting stronger. That’s exactly the kind of progress we’re hoping to see.
When your goals change, the way you measure progress should change too.
