First Tee Triad

Huge congratulations to our intern, Jamal Hutchison, on qualifying for the United States Amateur Championship, which will be held at Merion in August!

Jamal, who is from Asheville and currently plays golf at North Carolina Central University, has accomplished something truly incredible. This is a HUGE achievement, and we could not be more proud of him. Beyond being an outstanding golfer, Jamal is also an exceptional leader and an incredible representative of our program.

This is Jamal’s second year interning with our chapter, and we are so excited to continue watching him grow and accomplish amazing things both on and off the golf course. Congratulations, Jamal! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to cheer you on at the U.S. Amateur! 🏆⛳️

From representing First Tee – Triad on some of golf’s biggest stages, to earning All-Ivy honors at Yale and competing at the highest collegiate level, Blake’s journey is a true reflection of dedication, leadership, and excellence. His impact goes beyond the course serving as a role model for the next generation and showing what’s possible through hard work and strong mentorship.

We celebrate Blake’s accomplishments and the legacy he continues to build both in the game of golf and beyond. Thank you 🙏

A native of Winston-Salem, Coach Puryear has built an incredible career across programs like Stanford, Michigan State, Queens University, and Howard—leaving a lasting impact everywhere he’s been. He made history as the first African American head coach at a Power Four conference university, a moment that means so much for representation and the future of the game.

With over 20 years of coaching, multiple championships, and athletes reaching the PGA Tour, his legacy goes far beyond wins—he’s opening doors, creating opportunities, and showing the next generation what’s possible. Thank you 🙏

This week we are honoring our 2026 Honorees. Today we are proud to highlight Samuel G. Puryear Sr., a devoted community leader, educator, and accomplished golfer.

A graduate of Winston-Salem State University, he was an All-CIAA golfer, 1965 Small College All-American, and later a Hall of Fame inductee. His lasting impact on education, golf, and the Winston Lake Golf Course community continues to inspire generations. Thank you 🙏
