There’s a side of owning a small business that doesn’t make it onto Instagram very often.
For THREE WEEKS, the air conditioning at Bee Yoga Fusion has not been working properly.
Three weeks in summer!
And because our studio windows don’t open, when the temperature inside hits 80 degrees, there’s no fresh air moving through the space. I can’t just throw open a window, turn on a fan, and make it work.
I’ve had to cancel classes.
I’ve had to disappoint students.
I’ve lost income.
And meanwhile, I’ve been doing all the behind-the-scenes things a business owner is supposed to do: emailing, texting, following up, rearranging my schedule to meet repair people, trying to be patient and professional.
The HVAC company I was told to work with has now made THREE appointments with me and failed to show up all three times.
And I am angry.
This is the part of small business ownership people don’t see. Sometimes you can do everything right and still have absolutely no control over the thing causing the problem.
You can build the schedule. Market the classes. Pay the rent. Show up for your community. Keep the studio clean. Hire good people. Answer the emails. Teach the classes. And then something completely outside your control can prevent you from opening the doors.
I love owning Bee Yoga Fusion. I’m incredibly proud that I’ve kept this business going for 17 years.
But today the breath work and meditation is not cutting through the thick internal wall of anger.
😡 so I’m pausing before I send another angry email.
I know that Bee Yoga Fusion has never just been four walls and a room where we practice yoga. It’s the community we’ve built inside these walls. So yes, today I’m angry. I’m frustrated. And I’m tired of fighting with something that should have been fixed weeks ago.
But I’m also incredibly grateful for the students who are sweating with me through their workouts and shower me with compassion.
