It was a travel day, and my workout plans had to change.
After we arrived, a cardio workout was waiting for me. Honestly, after a long drive, I wasn’t into it. I would have much rather picked up some weights and done a strength workout.
But cardio was on the schedule—and I ask my clients to honor the commitments they make to themselves. So I had to honor mine.
I laced up my shoes and headed out.
Was it the best cardio workout I’ve ever done? Not even close. But I did it, and I kept that small commitment to myself.
Progress rarely comes from one enormous effort. It comes from small successes and ordinary efforts, stacked one on top of another.
You don’t have to crush every workout. Sometimes, you just have to keep the promise.

You’ve probably heard of sarcopenia. Now there’s another word worth knowing: POWERPENIA. ⚡💪
Sarcopenia describes the age-related loss of muscle mass.
Powerpenia is a newer term researchers are using to describe the loss of muscle power — our ability to produce force quickly.
And here’s the question that makes this important:
Will you be able to react quickly enough to catch yourself the next time you stumble?
Researchers are paying attention because muscle power appears to decline earlier and faster with aging than muscle mass or maximal strength — and maintaining it may be particularly important for mobility, physical function and fall prevention.
That’s one of the reasons Blue Tortuga Fitness developed Fall Avoidance and Mitigation — a 16-week program designed to develop the balance, reaction, power and strength that can help us avoid a fall, while also building the strength that may help mitigate the consequences if a fall does occur.
For a limited time, the complete 16-week program is $50.
No gym. No machines. Train in your own space. All you need is long resistance bands and an exercise mat.
📧 Contact [email protected] to enroll.
Do it today. You never know when you’ll need it.
Strength is being able to stand up from a chair.
Power is being able to stand up quickly.
Strength helps you climb a step.
Power helps you catch yourself when you trip.
Strength helps you lift something heavy.
Power helps you react when something suddenly goes wrong.

THIS WEEK’S CHALLENGE: GET ON THE FLOOR 🧘
This week, while you’re watching TV, reading, hanging out with family, or doing whatever you normally do to wind down…
Sit on the floor.
That’s the whole assignment. 😎
One of the best ways to sneak more mobility into daily life is simply spending time on the ground and letting your positions change naturally.
Sit cross-legged. Extend your legs. Try a 90/90 position. Side sit. Kneel if that feels comfortable. The only rule is you can't lean against anything.
You don’t need to turn any of these positions into an aggressive stretch. Move around whenever your body asks you to.
🪄 The magic is simply accumulating more time in positions your hips, knees, and ankles may not encounter very often during a normal chair-and-couch-heavy day.
Instead of finding another 30 minutes for “mobility,” use 30 minutes you were already going to spend watching Jeopardy. 👏
THE CHALLENGE ➡️ For the next 7 evenings, spend at least 20–30 minutes of your usual downtime sitting on the floor.
Change positions often and pay attention to what you notice.
Maybe certain positions become more comfortable. Maybe getting down and back up starts feeling easier. Maybe you discover that one hip has some opinions you weren't previously aware of. 👀
📊 POLL: Are you willing to give the 7-Day Floor Challenge a shot?
Drop your response in the comments:
A: I’m in — all 7 days!
B: I’ll try it tonight and see how it goes
C: Maybe — my hips and I need to discuss this
D: Nope — the couch wins
Vote in the poll, then meet us on the floor this week!

A Different Kind of Strength
Today, the world feels a little less colorful.
Dolly Parton was many things—an extraordinary entertainer, songwriter, businesswoman and philanthropist. But there’s another part of her legacy worth remembering:
She kept showing up.
Literally for decades.
She worked. She created. She gave back. She stayed curious. She kept finding new things to do and new reasons to get up in the morning.
That has something to do with fitness—but not because Dolly was known for workouts or gym time.
Because ultimately, fitness is about maintaining the ability to keep showing up for the life you want to live.
To work. To travel. To create. To help other people. To chase something new. To laugh. To contribute. And to keep doing it for as many years as we're fortunate enough to have.
Dolly once said:
“Find out who you are and do it on purpose.”
Maybe part of doing that on purpose is taking care of ourselves well enough—and staying strong enough—to keep doing the things that make us us.
Dolly Parton did a remarkable amount of living in her 80 years.
That’s a pretty good reminder of what we’re trying to stay strong for.
Rest well, Dolly. ❤️

Travel changes the scenery—not the standard. 😎
A boat, an RV, a hotel room, a rest stop…they can all be your gym.
Find a little space. Get it done.
Because staying strong isn’t just about fitness—it’s about protecting your ability to keep doing the things you want to do, wherever the adventure takes you.
Then go enjoy the reason you’re traveling in the first place.
Blue Tortuga Fitness can help figure it out.

🎉 CONGRATULATIONS, MARINA! 🎉
A big Blue Tortuga Fitness shout-out to Marina Thompson for completing Nomad Strong Active!
Marina was amazingly consistent throughout the program. She kept showing up, putting in the work, and building strength one workout at a time.
And the best part? She’s decided to do it again! 💪
That says a lot. Finishing a program is an accomplishment. Choosing to go back through it and build on that foundation is how real, lasting progress happens.
Congratulations, Marina! Here’s to Round 2! 🐢💪
