We’re often very practiced at asking ourselves:
What if it doesn’t work?
What if I fail?
What if they say no?
What if I make the wrong decision?
And of course, those questions can feel responsible. They can make us feel like we’re preparing ourselves for whatever happens next.
But what if we also made space for another question?
What’s the best that can happen?
Not because everything will magically work out exactly as you want it to.
But because your brain is going to look for evidence to support the questions you ask.
If you only ask yourself what could go wrong, you start making decisions from protection.
When you ask what could go right, you create space for possibility.
Maybe they say yes.
Maybe the opportunity opens a door you couldn’t have predicted.
Maybe you discover you’re capable of something you hadn’t given yourself permission to try.
Maybe it doesn’t work out exactly as planned, but it leads you somewhere even better.
And maybe the biggest shift is realizing that you don’t have to know the entire outcome before you’re willing to take the next step.
This is part of developing your mindset.
Not pretending fear doesn’t exist.
Not forcing yourself to be positive.
But becoming willing to consider more than one possible future.
So the next time you catch yourself spiraling into everything that could go wrong, pause.
Take a breath.
And ask:
“Okay. But what’s the best that can happen?”
You might be surprised by what becomes possible when you give your mind permission to look in that direction, too.
