WILLARD SPEEDWAY RACE RECAP

In a week full of challenges and equipment failures, the team at Willard Speedway was all hands on deck to get the surface race ready and the payoff was a spectacular night at the “Tri-States Fastest Quarter Mile “.

The Open Wheel Modified Feature was a wire to wire dominating win for the # 8 of Jimmy Lennex, Jr., from Maysville, KY, who benefited from a race long back and forth battle for second place between the # J3 of Ervin Vance and the third place finishing machine of # 28 Dakota Rayburn.

The Pro-Late Model Feature sponsored by KY Mist Distillery and KVOK Cranberry Infused Vodka began with an early pass for the lead, as the # 64 of A. J. Hicks stormed past pole sitter Steve LeMaster in the # 4. As LeMaster slipped to second, it put him in the crosshairs of a hard charging # 3H of Chase Hunley, who had just passed the highly competitive # 29 of Dalton Adkins for third. Hicks took advantage of the racing for position behind him to stretch it to an eight car length lead as Hunley was finally able to use the high line to get past LeMaster. Hunley faced a tough task to make up ground on Hicks. The congestion of cars at the rear of the field and a wicked fast race car finally allowed Hunley to reach the rear deck lid of the #64 with three laps to go. Hunley used the high line to catch up to Hicks and dove low to get a nose out in front of Hicks who fought back to retake the lead. The final battle was on the white flag lap in turn four, side beside, as Hunley was able to use the high line one last time to edge past Hicks at the finish line. Hats off to to these competitors for the hard and clean racing that was an amazing experience for the fans. Congratulations to Chase Hunley of Salyersville, KY on his first Pro-Late win, followed by Hicks and LeMaster.

The Limited Sport Mod Series Feature was a caution/checker finish won by the #4 of Dave Walters from Oil Springs, KY who benefited from a fierce back and forth wrestling match between the #128 of J. K. Hall and the # 32 T of Tucker Adams, that ended with a last lap crash in the final turn that got nasty post race, both on and off the track, that led to both drivers being disqualified. The 7J of James Sweeney finished second ahead of the third place finish of the # 30C of Terry Blevins.

The Four Cylinder Feature was a tense battle of attrition as race winner the # 47 JR of Jaxon Ingram, from Wallingford, KY, outlasted the # 21 D of Dallas Muse who maintained a car length chase for most of the race, as the eight cars who started the race became three in final laps with the # 42 of Caitlin Coburn finishing third.
