Alpha 1-on-1 Training: A Sunday with Kohbe

Sunday work with Rockford basketball player Kohbe B in a one-on-one session.

Three training blocks. One goal: build a more explosive, athletic basketball player.

šŸ’„ Explosive movements
šŸ’„ Isometrics
šŸ’„ Jump rope
šŸ’„ Hurdles
šŸ’„ Vertimax
šŸ’„ And finishing strong on the VersaClimber

Different tools. Different demands. One complete training session.

The work doesn’t stop when the week does.

EXPLOSIVE SPEED STARTS HERE.

At Alpha Speed School, we’re using the Vertimax to challenge our athletes to produce power in new ways.

From straddle box jumps using the Vertimax handles to single-arm resistance jumps, lateral hurdle hops, etc, athletes are learning to apply force explosively while controlling their body and maintaining quality movement.

It’s not just about jumping higher—it’s about developing the ability to produce power, absorb force, stabilize, and explode again.

That’s what Speed School is all about: building athletes who are faster, more explosive, and more powerful.

šŸ”„ Train explosive. Move with purpose. Perform at your best.

šŸ“š ALPHA BOOK OF THE WEEK

REPEAT EDITION: ATOMIC HABITS

Some books are worth reading once.

Atomic Habits by James Clear is worth reading twice.

We’ve already featured this book as our Book of the Week—but we’re bringing it back because the lessons are too important to only hear once.

The big takeaway: Small habits, repeated consistently, create big results.

For athletes, that means:
šŸ’„Showing up consistently
šŸ’„Focusing on the process
šŸ’„Building the right mindset
šŸ’„Getting 1% better every day
šŸ”„ Becoming the type of person who does the work—even when nobody is watching

Your goals matter—but your daily habits are what actually get you there.

Don’t just read it. Re-read it. Then put it into practice.

ALPHA MINDSET:
Success isn’t one big decision. It’s the result of the small decisions you make every day.

ALPHA STRENGTH SPOTLIGHT Zercher Squat

The Zercher Squat is a great way to build lower-body strength while challenging the core, upper back, and posture.

Why we like it for athletes:
• Builds strength through a deep squat position
• Challenges the core to stabilize the load
• Trains the upper back and trunk to stay strong under load
• Encourages athletes to own their squat position
• Transfers well to real-world athletic positions

Strong legs. Strong core. Strong position.

At Alpha, we don’t just train athletes to lift more—we train them to move better and become more powerful athletes.

ALPHA TRAINING TECHNOLOGY:

OVR Velocity Tracker + Landmine Clean

At Alpha, we don’t just measure how much an athlete lifts.

We measure how fast they move it.

We use the OVR Velocity Tracker with the Pure Motion Landmine Clean to measure explosive movement and power in real time.

šŸ’„ Explosive hip extension
⚔ Force production from the ground up
šŸ‹ļø Athletic movement without chasing max weight
šŸ“ˆ Real-time velocity feedback

Velocity tracking allows us to adjust loads, monitor fatigue, and objectively track an athlete’s ability to produce force quickly.

Because athletic performance isn’t just about being strong.

It’s about being STRONG + FAST.

Measure it. Train it. Own it.

šŸ› ļøALPHA TOOL(s) OF THE WEEK:

OVR Performance Technology

Measure It. Train It. Own It.

At Alpha, we don’t just train athletes—we measure what matters.

We use OVR technology to bring objective data into our training and show athletes exactly where they are and whether their training is working.

⚔ VERTICAL JUMP TESTER

How explosive are you?

We use the vertical jump tester to establish a baseline, measure explosiveness, and track progress throughout a training cycle.

The goal: jump higher, produce more power, and keep improving.

šŸƒ LASER TIMER

Speed isn’t guessed. It’s measured.

The OVR laser timer gives us accurate sprint times for acceleration and speed work.

We use it to test, train, and retest—and help athletes chase those hundredths.

šŸ‹ļø VELOCITY TRACKER

How fast are you moving the weight?

Bar speed gives us another valuable piece of the puzzle. We use velocity data to monitor intensity, fatigue, explosive strength, and training progress.

🧠 WHY IT MATTERS

Technology doesn’t replace coaching—it makes coaching better.

Test → Train → Track → Adjust → Repeat.

At Alpha, we don’t just hope you’re getting better. We measure it.

šŸ”„ ALPHA MINDSET:

DON’T WASTE YOUR SUMMER GAINS: keep getting better each week by continuing to Train and Lift

You spent the summer getting stronger.

Getting faster.

Getting more explosive.

Building your engine.

Building your confidence.

Then your season starts… and you stop training?

WHY?

Your season isn’t the time to stop developing.

It’s the time to KEEP GETTING BETTER.

You don’t need to train like it’s the offseason.

You need to train SMART.

Train around your practices.
Train around your games.
Recover. Adapt.
Then BUILD AGAIN.

Because in-season training isn’t just about maintaining what you have.

It’s about becoming a better athlete while you compete.

The athletes who continue to train are giving themselves another opportunity to separate.

DON’T SPEND YOUR SUMMER BUILDING THE HOUSE……THEN STOP CONSTRUCTION WHEN THE SEASON STARTS.

BUILD.
COMPETE.
DEVELOP.
REPEAT.

THE SEASON ISN’T THE END OF YOUR DEVELOPMENT.

IT’S PART OF IT.

šŸ”„ ALPHA MOVE OF THE WEEK: SEATED BOX JUMP

ā€œCan you create power when you have no momentum?ā€

That’s what we’re training with the Seated Box Jump.

Starting from a seated position removes the countermovement and forces the athlete to produce force from a dead stop.

šŸ’„ Explode through the hips
šŸ’„ Produce force quickly
šŸ’„ Jump with intent
šŸ’„ Stick the landing

That ability to go from STILL → EXPLOSIVE is exactly what athletes need on the field and court.

šŸ€ Rebound
šŸˆ First step
šŸ„ Change of direction
šŸ Jump at the net
⚾ Explosive movement

Don’t just train to be strong.
Train to turn strength into POWER.
