All Star Academy & American Institute of Taekwondo The premier martial arts center, after-school program, and summer camp for children in Grand Prairie and surrounding cities! Since 1986.

The Karate Kidz program of the American Institute of Taekwondo is a program that helps children become better versions of themselves! What sets our center apart from the average karate school is (1) our specialized expertise in working with Children; and (2) the age-specific training that each student receives. Dr. Judy Flury, the owner of our school, is a personality psychologist, and has worked with children for over 30 years. Aside from teaching at our school, Dr. Flury has worked various Grand Prairie elementary schools by providing bully-prevention presentations, is on the faculty board of the Martial Art Teacher’s Association, and authored the book “How to Raise a Real Winner: Simple Strategies to Give Your Child the Qualities of Success.”

Our age-specific Karate SKILLZ children's program is internationally acclaimed, and is currently being taught in over 100 professional martial arts schools in 7 countries. The Karate SKILLZ are amazing age-specific curricula (4-6 years, 7-9 years, and 10-14 years old) that teach more than just kicking and punching; they are designed to develop the student as a whole. With their own age-specific SKILLZ program, each student trains to become a better version of themselves -- more so than any other sport or activity available today! Our classes are customized to use traditional, disciplined Taekwondo training, combined with fun and exciting drills. This format gives children the best of both worlds -- the focus, confidence, discipline, and respect that is provided by traditional training, and also a whole lot of fun! 1. Let them struggle with something small before you step in.
2. Praise the attempt, not just the outcome.
3. Give them a small job to do, so they walk in with a purpose.

We build all three into class.

1. Get down to their eye level before you say anything.
2. Name what they're feeling instead of telling them to stop feeling it.
3. Give them one small choice, so they feel back in control.
