I previously wrote columns for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel and Grand Junction Free Press, where I was honored to win 4 first-place awards from the Colorado Press Association for humorous column writing. Turns out unlimited oil money couldn't buy unlimited patience.

After billions spent on guaranteed contracts, team franchises nobody could name, and shotgun starts that felt more like music festivals with an occasional wedge shot, LIV Golf has officially folded its tent and filed for Chapter 11.

The disruption tour that fractured professional golf, sparked endless lawsuits, and tore friendships apart across the PGA Tour ecosystem has reached the only finish line guaranteed by bad math: running out of runway.

It turns out that handing nine-figure checks to players past their prime doesn't build a sustainable business model when TV ratings hover near infomercial levels.

It was good for players' wallets I guess, but bad overall for golf, in my opinion.



Now, the defectors who traded legacy for generational wealth are left holding bags of depreciating equity, wondering if their lifetime bans from Ponte Vedra are actually permanent or if the PGA Tour will let them crawl back through Monday qualifiers. The grand Saudi experiment promised to modernize golf, but in the end, tradition, television viewership, and basic economic gravity proved impossible to out-drive.
