Throwing it back to another repeat speaker.

Becky Montag is a physical therapist and pelvic health specialist right here in the Grand Valley. She has joined us for multiple prenatal yoga series and every single time the room learns something that changes how they think about their body.

In her own words:

"I began my career as a Physical Therapist in the acute care setting, where I spent the first 20 years of my practice. During that time, I was reminded nearly every day how critical a well-functioning pelvic floor is to preserving independence, dignity, and quality of life.

After the loss of my son, I felt a deep need for a change in direction. It was during this time that I was introduced to the specialty of pelvic health within the Physical Therapy profession. I believe pelvic health is a sacred and tender area of healthcare, one that often carries unspoken struggles and requires holding space with compassion, respect, and without judgment."

We are so grateful Becky keeps coming back. Her knowledge, her compassion, and the care she brings into that room is something our students talk about long after the series ends.

The Fall Prenatal Yoga Series starts October 19th. Link in bio to register.

Waiting for labor to start is our first lesson in patience, releasing control, and trust.

Not just trust in ourselves or the process. Trust in our child. Because it is baby who decides when they are ready to be born. Not the due date. Not the calendar. Not us.

That is the first lesson of parenthood. And it arrives before we ever hold them.

Support is the single biggest factor in a successful breastfeeding journey for those who choose it.

Not willpower. Not dedication. Support.

A supportive partner. A knowledgeable lactation specialist. A community of people who normalize feeding in all its forms.

If you're navigating any part of the infant feeding journey and things feel hard, please reach out. The Grand Valley has skilled lactation support available through independent providers, both hospitals, and the new birth center.

Throwing it back to an idea I loved that just didn't find its moment yet.

Earlier this year I offered a monthly Mindful Mamas class. The concept was simple: yoga first, then stay and socialize over coffee or tea. A space for mamas to move and then actually connect with each other without rushing off somewhere.

I only had attendees once. It was a good morning. But the consistency wasn't there and eventually I let it go. The idea never stopped feeling right though.

The Mama + Mini Flow classes in Montrose this summer reminded me why. When you create a space that combines gentle movement with genuine community time, something happens that neither yoga class nor coffee date can create on its own.

I'm thinking about what a Grand Junction version of this could look like in 2027. Maybe a Mama + Mini Flow format where littles are welcome. Maybe a mamas only version with coffee and conversation afterward. Maybe both.

If this sounds like something you'd show up for, content or send me a message. I'd love to know what would actually serve this community.

Did you know that ni***es darken during pregnancy partly because newborns have very limited eyesight and can mostly see contrast?

Baby is literally using visual cues to find the breast. The human body is remarkable and slightly wild.

Babies are born ready to nurse. They root around searching by smell and contrast with more instinct than most people realize. Knowing this before birth helps you trust the process a little more in those first vulnerable moments.

The nursing hunch, the mommy wrist, the constant tension in the neck and shoulders. None of it exists in isolation.

It's one system. And it starts long before you have a baby.

The good news is you don't need a dedicated hour to address it. You need a few intentional minutes woven into the margins of your day.

Shoulder rolls while you nurse. A lateral stretch while baby does tummy time. Thread the Needle during a diaper change pause. Chin tucks while you wait for the kettle.

Consistency over comprehensiveness. Every single time.

A rainbow baby is a baby born after loss. The rainbow doesn't erase the storm. It exists because of it. Joy and grief can live in the same heart at the same time and often do.

If you are raising a rainbow baby, expecting one, or still waiting for yours: you are seen.

Mommy wrist doesn't exist in isolation.

It's part of a larger pattern of postpartum upper body strain. The wrists, the shoulders, the neck, the upper back. All connected. All responding to the same repetitive positions of holding, feeding, and caring for a newborn day after day.

The good news is that small intentional adjustments make a real difference. A nursing pillow. A change in how you lift. A few minutes of movement each day.

You don't have to accept the discomfort as just part of motherhood. It's common. It's not normal. And it's worth addressing.
