By TSSN Staff Reports
Presented by Carey Bass
Another big week of high school sports across the Upper Cumberland has produced five standout nominees for the State Farm Carey Bass Upper Cumberland Male Athlete of the Week for the week of August 31.
This week’s ballot features four football standouts who helped their teams earn victories Friday night, along with an impressive performance on the golf course.
Jamison Kendall — Livingston Academy Football
Kendall helped ignite a second-half surge as Livingston Academy knocked off Smith County 23-9 to remain unbeaten.
The Wildcat standout carried the ball 13 times for 184 yards, finished with 204 all-purpose yards and found the end zone three times. Kendall’s explosive night was a major factor in Livingston Academy overcoming a 9-0 halftime deficit and moving to 3-0.
Max Warner — Stone Memorial Football
Warner was dealing through the air in Stone Memorial’s dominant 50-0 rivalry victory over Cumberland County.
The Panther quarterback threw for 131 yards and four touchdowns, helping Stone Memorial take control of the cross-town matchup and move to 2-1 on the season.
Four touchdown passes earn Warner a spot on this week’s ballot.
Jesse Foutch — DeKalb County Football
Few players impacted their game in as many different ways as Foutch.
The DeKalb County standout completed 5-of-8 passes with a touchdown, added 44 rushing yards and another touchdown on 15 carries, and then made his presence felt defensively by recording an interception.
His two-way performance helped DeKalb County remain unbeaten at 3-0.
Kaleb Birdwell — Jackson County Football
Birdwell delivered one of the week’s biggest defensive performances on one of the Upper Cumberland’s biggest rivalry stages.
In Jackson County’s 24-14 Battle for the Bell victory over Clay County, Birdwell recorded six tackles, one sack, one tackle for loss and a forced fumble.
He also came up with the play of the night, scooping up a fumble and taking it 55 yards for a touchdown as the Blue Devils improved to 3-0 and claimed the Bell.
Parker Beck — Stone Memorial Golf
Football isn’t the only sport producing big performances.
Stone Memorial golfer Parker Beck earns his place among the finalists after firing a 2-under-par round through nine holes at Stonehenge.
Making the performance even more impressive were the extreme heat conditions, as Beck battled both the course and the elements to turn in an outstanding round for the Panthers.
