The date is October 6th.
This is a post from the opposition.
The board of Supervisors will make the final decision for the sports park and training center.
I know it's been a long road but if any of my team can make it to this meeting please reach out to me.
I do not expect it to last as long as last time, but who knows.
Mark your calendars and come with me to see what happens.
Lots of folks have said they want this but only a few have actually put in the effort to make it happen.
Let me know, ok?
The Goochland Board of Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the VSP sporting clays ("gun range") application on Tuesday, October 6th at 6pm. It's currently scheduled to be held at the Goochland Administration Building, but it might be relocated to the high school at the County's discretion.
In addition to concerns about the application itself, such as placing a public-use shooting facility within earshot of 362+ homes in 1.5 miles, there are the numerous outstanding concerns regarding the supposed impartiality and integrity of the CUP process.
Why were disclosures not made to the public regarding the VSP facility becoming owned or operated by Goochland Park & Recreation in the future? Why was there no disclosure or recusal by then-Commissioner Jess McLaughlin due to his volunteer relationship with VSP? Is it typical for a Parks & Recreation Director to provide time and material to a CUP application or only to one which may one day fall under his purview? What safeguards were supposedly put in place to ensure that Mr. Winfree did not have access to County Staff outside what would be permitted to a typical applicant? What safeguards were given to protect Staff from having to differentiate between Mr. Winfree the elected official and Mr. Winfree the private citizen/applicant? Were those safeguards followed by every person and at every stage of the process?
On grounds of incompatibility with Goochland ordinance and many serious ethical concerns, we call upon the Board of Supervisors to DENY this application.
