I've coached this line into staff scripts for years because it works every time: parent says 'this is just for him,' staff replies, 'I understand -- we find kids do much better when the whole family takes the first couple of classes together.' It moves the parent from the sidelines onto the mat, and that shift changes how they experience the whole program.

Every school owner has a family they should have released two years ago.

The reason you want to be good at marketing is that you only want to teach people you want to have there. If firing a family would put a hole in your month you don't know how to fill, the problem isn't the confrontation. It's the marketing.

Some students become cancerous, and like real cancer, if you don't cut it out quickly it spreads.

Here's the apology-first script I've used for thirty years — it almost never produces an angry exit — plus the policy my staff hated at first: I hold kids responsible for their parents.

A school owner I coach set up a booth at one elementary/charter school's orientation day -- 85 appointments in 2 hours, strong show rate because every family was already zoned to that school. Later converted into roughly 40 enrollments. Some schools have hit 500 appointments in a week doing this across multiple schools. Once-a-year slot -- book it early.
