Yoga, most commonly translated as ‘union’, teaches us to connect our mind, body, and spirit. This healing and time-tested practice provides us with extraordinary physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits. This is why yoga is one of the most complete forms of exercise available, it offers not only the physical benefits of cardiovascular, strength and flexibility training, but provides the opportunity for emotional, and spiritual growth as well. At Treetop Yoga Studio, our class schedule features an eclectic combination of instructors with very different training and teaching styles in order to best meet the needs of our diverse community. We recognize that every body is different, and that different types of yoga are appropriate for different people, based on physical condition, injuries or limitations, and body constitution. Most of our classes are mixed levels and our instructors are experienced in teaching all levels of students, safely guiding them through their yoga journeys while providing them with the opportunity to grow. Whether you are looking for a workout, stress alleviation, pain relief, or a deeper exploration of self, our instructors are here to guide you safely to your goal. What we offer:

Yoga Myth: You have to sit cross-legged to meditate.

You don’t.

While cross-legged seats have a long history within yogic traditions, meditation isn’t defined by achieving one particular shape.

The intention is to find enough steadiness + ease in the body that your attention can turn inward — whether you’re sitting cross-legged, kneeling, sitting in a chair, or using support.

The posture serves the practice. Not the other way around.

Sometimes deepening your practice means letting go of what you thought it was supposed to look like. 🌿

TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: Meet Shannon ✨

A former competitive gymnast, Shannon first found yoga when her coach suggested it as a way to quiet her mind on the balance beam. Years later, hot yoga became a way to maintain her strength and flexibility—but her relationship with the practice continued to evolve.

“I used to approach yoga as a competition—to get one more push-up in Chaturanga or reach for the bind. After stepping away from hot yoga and deepening my practice, I developed a greater connection to my breath, my body and the eight limbs of yoga.”

Today, Shannon’s classes combine mobility, quiet strength and an appreciation for what the body is already capable of. She hopes students leave with gratitude for the strength they carry within themselves.

Her guiding philosophy is Ubuntu: “I am because we are”—a reminder of our interconnectedness and collective responsibility.

Beyond Treetop, Shannon teaches Adaptive Physical Education at The Children’s Center for Communication and Beverly School for the Deaf, works internationally as a cheer and dance judge, and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in education.

Practice with Shannon in Yoga Sculpt, Stretch + Strengthen, Community Yoga and our kids programming. 🤍

The chakras weren’t always a rainbow. 🌈

In early yogic and ta***ic traditions, chakras were described through symbols, sounds, elements, deities and lotus petals—not one standardized sequence of seven rainbow colors.

The familiar red-to-violet system became widely popular through 20th-century Western interpretations of yoga and energy work.

That doesn’t make the colors meaningless—but it does remind us that some things presented as “ancient tradition” are actually modern ways of understanding much older teachings.

Yoga invites us to stay curious—not only about the practice, but about where it comes from.
