After much consideration we've decided to find Potato his own person
2013 large mustang pony Gelding available in Glastonbury CT.
Who is looking for their next BFF?
This pony has tried on the lesson horse life and he's decided it's just not the job or uniform he wants to wear.
If you like Danny Devito back in the 1990s movies, well, this pony embodies all of the goofy, ridiculous energy that Mr. Danny Devito brought to the screen.

The pluses- he is very people oriented and loves being told how handsome he is.
He's a super easy keeper and is happy out 24/7 or stalled at night.
He's pretty good for the vet and farrier. Stands on the cross ties.
Tolerates my insane goats
All around a cool dude

BUT

He's peticular and he will test your attention and your timing. In true pony nature he will see if you are paying attention, if not, he'll decide to go on his own adventure.

Riding- he is more whoa than go, unless his routine has changed, then he has big feelings. We walk and trot him in the ring no problem. I don't have a small enough kid to canter him.
He tries really hard to do what we ask, he just gets easily overwhelmed.

So who would be the right fit for this dude?

Someone who has the timing of a star quarterback in the 4th quarter and needing to make the touchdown to win the game.
Someone who is petite and loves a challenge. He is not a kid friendly horse--- see above.

He seems to have something going on in his right stifle but I think it's because he doesn't move as much as he should. He trots off sound on it... it could also be because he's been a bit of a couch potato and needs to build up muscle.

This dude is so cool and he needs his own person. Someone who loves that he is a goober and someone willing to hold boundaries while also allowing him the space to share his opinions.
He is not for everyone but he is for someone.
He's about 13 hh and 13 years old. I think he is from Pancake HMA but I could be wrong.
Marketing him for a friend, if seriously interested I will put you in contact with her.

We have taken him on the trail with one other horse. He is pretty good on very short trail rides but could do better on longer rides with time and training.

I need to take more photos and videos before she gets any bigger.
I'll admit, now that she is here I've convinced myself that she doesn't really need too much interaction, that she just needs to work on growing.
Which is true, but it is also so far from the truth. This little girl was sick for so long and needed so much care and daily medicine that I got into the routine of checking in with her twice a day. Now, she's feeling loads better so I just focused elsewhere.
My difficulty is that I like new shiny projects, I know I'll be able to train Hope (and Faith) and that it'll be relatively simple. Training is showing up and being consistent.
Hope is such a good soul with how rough of a start she had. It's easy to take for granted how sweet she is and how willing she is to get scratches and snuggles.

The farrier will do Hope's hooves next week and Faith has an appt for October 5th. Please send prayers, good vibes and please share our lesson specials. All of the above is going to be expensive.

Faith needs farrier work ASAP which means she needs to be ok with being handled. I find with horses like her that we need to go slow to go fast.
I have a minute long video that talks a bit about what I do but here is the idea in photos.
I don't start haltering by putting it on their head. I start by laying it on their neck. I want her to feel like she isn't trapped and this is what works for me and the horses I train. It's not perfect and I do use both R+ and R- methods here but it works and this went way more smoothly today then last night.

The goal is to get her to a point that we can sedate her heavily enough to trim her feet before the end of the month.

Can you help us get there by buying a lesson or two? Would you consider being one of their care leasers?

I've had to make this halter 2 holes bigger since this photo! She is getting so big, so fast.
Hope has been listed as looking for a new home but I'm hoping I can figure out how to keep her.
She is a cool little filly and honestly she is what I've been looking for, for a long time. I've just learned over the years that you never know how long a horse is in your life for.

Cressida has someone interested in her and it honestly sounds like the perfect person for her. Please keep your fingers crossed!
Jax retires next month. Even though I am down sizing projects, I am actively looking for a replacement for Jax.

I've been looking for a job outside of the farm and I have a few leads. The one lead sounds like they are looking for someone like me, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Please keep us in your thoughts and if you've thought about riding and want to try a lesson or two, reach out! Weekend time slots fill quickly.

One year ago today, Truly and her bestie, Heiress (R.I.P), came to Hidden Meadow.
This day holds significance to Felicia because on Sept. 12, 2001 Felicia purchased her very first horse, Maggie.

Over the past year Truly has grown and become less guarded and more willing to engage and be loved on. Her human adores her, even when throws a mare face.

The weaning process has begun.
Faith and Hope will no be separated at night.
This is to help Faith wean Hope. I do a gradual wean as mares are more than nutrition suppliers. They also teach their foals so many social and behavioral responses. I think foals should spend at least a year with their dam.
