43 years old and still driving all night for the people who made me, me. mom made me a vegan mexican dinner and lemon squares for dessert because she knows exactly who i am🍋

sat in that kitchen watching her light candles with her hands a little unsteady and her eyes so sure, and i just kept thinking, this is it. this is the whole point. thirteen years of teaching, two degrees stacked on two more degrees, a whole life and business built across the ocean in portugal, and none of it means anything without coming home to this counter, these plates, and joe's arm around my shoulder by the fireplace.

st louis raised me. colorado rebuilt me. portugal unwrapped my wings, but this kitchen? this kitchen still knows how to put me completely back together in one dinner🥹✨
