The federal government has reportedly begun denaturalization proceedings against former Catholic priest Marcin Stanislaw Garbacz following an immigration fraud investigation.
Garbacz, who previously served in the Diocese of Rapid City in South Dakota, was convicted in a case involving the misuse of more than $250,000 from local parish funds. He later received an additional federal sentence related to allegations involving a minor during a previous period in Poland.
Federal authorities are reviewing whether Garbacz failed to disclose relevant information during his naturalization process. Prosecutors argue that citizenship obtained through significant misrepresentation may be subject to legal review.
The case is part of Operation False Haven, an enforcement effort focused on individuals accused of concealing serious criminal histories during immigration proceedings.
Denaturalization is a legal process that can remove U.S. citizenship in limited circumstances, typically involving allegations that citizenship was obtained through fraud or unlawful means.
The proceedings will now continue through the federal court system as legal questions surrounding Garbacz’s citizenship status are considered.

Six people in Frio County, Texas, have been indicted in an election investigation involving allegations of illegal vote harvesting during local elections.
The individuals include the county’s top executive, two City Council members, a school board trustee, an elections department employee, and a local resident.
Most defendants are facing felony charges related to allegations that payments through Cash App were used in connection with collecting absentee ballots.
The investigation, led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, expands a broader election probe that previously involved searches of homes linked to Latino campaign volunteers. Those earlier actions drew criticism and calls for further review from civil rights groups.
State authorities have not reported charges against the individuals targeted in those initial searches.
The defendants will now move through the Texas court system as legal proceedings continue. The case has renewed discussions about election oversight, ballot collection rules, and the balance between enforcement actions and civil rights concerns.
