Cool little click beetle we found on the LST towards the end. I imagine the “face” on its back is a defense mechanism to scare off would be predators.

The look you make when you arrive to the location you thought you could resupply your water and there’s nothing but sand, about 7 miles in.
As you can see it was bone dry. Though this was not ideal we had a feeling being midsummer in Texas this may happen. So we had the people that dropped us off leave a five gal jug of water at a cross section. So not the perfect scenario but no real danger, just had to ration water a bit longer till we got to our back up resupply.
The crazy part is they had several storms the days prior but just goes to show how dry the land can get their.

The only water we saw the entire 10miles of the hike.
Even if you scout your water locations on a map before hand be prepared with a back up plan in case that water is not there when you arrive (foreshadowing)

Turning points for the Lone Star Trail (LST) if you are doing it in smaller sections.
Second picture was our turn off point for the North Wilderness. Where we took a slight detour to see what a wilderness in Texas was like before picking back up on the Lone Star Trail (LST).
The wilderness was nice but we definitely enjoyed the LST more due to it being maintained a bit more as well as just more things to see.

Sometimes you just have to stop and appreciate the magnitude of some trees.
These pine trees aren’t the biggest we’ve ever seen but that doesn’t take away from the beauty of something getting so big in such a harsh environment like Texas.
