Hazel Leaf Healing

Hazel Leaf Healing Serving Gainesville, Florida and online coaching clients. Hi! I am no stranger to anxiety and depression. My body felt so uncomfortable to live in.

Hazel Leaf Healing helps people find relief from anxiety, insomnia, overwhelm, stress, and emotional suffering through massage therapy, energy work, coaching, hypnosis, and nervous system healing. I’m Craig Antley, licensed massage therapist and founder of Orange Blossom Massage and Energy Work, located in Gainesville, Florida. This city became my home after moving here in early 2020 and falling in love with the culture, nature and beauty. By the time I was 18, I had had 3 major depressions and compounding anxiety that sent me spiraling down a dark and winding path. I couldn’t sleep, my thoughts scattered like a million trains going in every direction and nothing seemed right nor ok. I didn’t feel like myself. I started to feel true loneliness and alienation from what was happening to me; at times wondered if I would make it. Both these afflictions sent me on a path to find my own healing journey. After learning how to do inner work with the help of mental health specialists and through my own path, I came to the outer work of massage, having work done from the outside in. Massage truly helped me. I felt I could finally relax, take a breath and see with a calm heart and open eyes. My stress levels went down and I started feeling like myself, not just trying to survive the onslaught of a never ending hurricane. I know massage can help many others too. This is what I have to give and offer back to our community. It’s my purpose and passion to help people feel more at home in their bodies, to free up trapped energy, and to provide relief from the physical symptoms of anxiety and depression. I know the heaviness of depression and how debilitating it can be in relationships, careers, and in daily life. I know how an anxiety attack can become traumatizing causing more anxiety around it happening again, growing into a chronic anxious web. Whether you want to ease stress, more restful sleep, feel more comfortable in your own skin, experience freer flowing energy, or to just be able to finally take a breath, I am here to help. Outside of practicing massage, my favorite things are spending time with loved ones, playing guitar, writing and producing music, hiking, running, and exercising my mind by reading and learning almost anything. I look forward to hearing from you and connecting with you soon!

If you wake up anxious, try not to make getting rid of the anxiety the first task of your day.

Because then you may start checking:

"Is it gone yet?"

"Why do I still feel this?"

"What's wrong with me?"

And suddenly you're anxious about being anxious.

Instead, try:

"My system is activated this morning. What would help me begin a little more gently?"

Maybe that's waiting 10 minutes before checking your phone.

Drinking water.

Stepping outside.

Stretching.

Or simply sitting quietly before the demands of the day arrive.

You don't need the perfect morning routine.

Sometimes you just need a little space between waking up and reacting to everything.

What does your nervous system expect morning to mean?

Maybe it's:

Work.

Rushing.

Emails.

Deadlines.

Responsibility.

Taking care of everyone.

Getting everything right.

When the same sequence happens over and over, your system can learn:

Morning = Prepare.

Eventually, your body may begin reacting before your conscious mind has even figured out what it's worried about.

Instead of asking:

"Why am I like this?"

Try asking:

"What has my system learned to expect?"

That question can open a very different door.

You just opened your eyes.

Nothing has happened yet.

But your chest already feels tight.

Your mind is already running through everything you need to do.

And somehow you feel behind before you've even gotten out of bed.

Morning anxiety can feel confusing because sometimes there isn't an obvious reason for it.

But your nervous system doesn't start from zero every morning.

If your system has learned that mornings mean pressure, responsibility, rushing, or uncertainty, it may begin preparing before you've consciously thought about the day ahead.

This week's article explores why that happens—and what may help.

You don't have to become a completely different person to change your relationship with anxiety.

Sometimes change looks much smaller.

A stressful moment happens...

and your body settles sooner.

An anxious thought appears...

and you don't follow it for the next three hours.

Your shoulders tighten...

and then let go.

You notice yourself worrying...

and recognize the pattern before getting pulled into it.

That's not failure because anxiety still appeared.

That's flexibility.

Your system is discovering that the old response isn't its only option anymore.

Your Mind Isn't Broken—Your System Learned a Pattern.

What if some of the things you dislike most about anxiety started as attempts to protect you?

Worry tries to prepare.

Overthinking tries to prevent mistakes.

Muscle tension prepares your body to respond.

Hypervigilance looks for problems before they arrive.

That doesn't mean these patterns are still helpful.

But understanding why they're happening can change how you work with them.

Instead of:

"What's wrong with me?"

Try:

"What has my system learned to expect?"

Sometimes healing begins with understanding the pattern instead of fighting yourself.

"I'm an anxious person."

When you've lived with anxiety for a long time, it's easy to stop seeing anxiety as something you experience and start seeing it as who you are.

But what if there's another way to understand it?

Your mind and body learn from repetition.

They learn what to expect.

They learn what to watch for.

They learn how to protect you.

Eventually, those responses can become so automatic that they feel like your personality.

But a pattern isn't an identity.

Your Mind Isn't Broken—Your System Learned a Pattern.

And learned patterns can change.

You don't have to earn your rest.

For many of us, work doesn't end when the workday ends.

The computer closes, but the mind keeps going.
We think about what didn't get finished.
What needs to happen tomorrow.
What we should be doing instead of sitting still.

And sometimes, when we finally have permission to rest, we discover that we don't really know how to stop.

This Labor Day, I hope you can give yourself a little space to simply be.

Take the walk.
Sit outside.
Read the book.
Spend time with someone you love.
Take a nap.
Do absolutely nothing for a while.

Rest isn't something you have to earn by becoming exhausted first.
It's part of being human.

Wishing you a peaceful and restorative Labor Day from Hazel Leaf Healing. 🌿

"I've always been an anxious person."

"I can't relax."

"I'm just a worrier."

When you've lived with stress for a long time, it's easy to start believing these patterns are simply who you are.

But there's another possibility.

Your nervous system may have **learned to stay prepared.**

It learned to scan for problems.

It learned to hold tension.

It learned to stay one step ahead.

And something your system learned doesn't necessarily have to remain permanent.

**Your Mind Isn't Broken—Your System Learned a Pattern.**

Have you ever been completely exhausted...

but still couldn't slow down?

You finally sit down and feel restless.

You get into bed and your thoughts start racing.

Your body is tired, but something inside still feels "on."

That's because **exhaustion and relaxation aren't the same thing.**

When your nervous system has spent a long time responding to stress, it may have trouble settling even when you desperately need rest.

You aren't necessarily bad at relaxing.

Your system may simply have become very practiced at staying prepared.

Learn more about the signs of survival mode in this week's article.

• Getting overwhelmed by small things
• Racing thoughts when you finally get into bed

Your nervous system may have become very good at staying prepared.
