I didnāt have influencers, viral diets, or āwhat I eat in a dayā reels telling me what to do.
I had to learn. I studied, experimented, screwed up, fell off, started againāand eventually lost 65 pounds.
And these are still 6 things I recommend today:
1. Track what youāre actually eating.
Not forever. But long enough to understand portions, calories, protein, and where the extras are sneaking in. You canāt change what you donāt understand.
2. Stop being afraid of a little restriction.
Yes, I said it. š If fat loss is your goal, you cannot always eat whatever you want, whenever you want, in whatever amount you want. Sometimes reaching a goal requires saying no.
3. Prioritize protein.
Every meal. Protein helps preserve and build muscle, keeps you fuller, and becomes even more important as we get older.
4. Strength traināand actually challenge yourself.
Pick up weights. Progress them. Your last few reps shouldnāt feel exactly like your first few. Your body needs a reason to adapt.
5. Move your body EVERY day.
That doesnāt mean seven brutal workouts a week. Walk. Get your steps. Run. Lift. Take recovery days. But stop making movement something you only do when youāre āmotivated.ā
6. Accept that consistency is uncomfortable sometimes.
Youāre going to have weekends, vacations, bad days, missed workouts, and times you fall off. I DID TOO. The difference is learning how to get right back to it instead of turning one bad day into three bad months.
Losing 65 pounds wasnāt what made me an expert.
Learning how and WHY it worked is what made me want to study thisāand eventually build an entire career helping other people do it better.
13 years later, there are a million more voices telling us what to do.
But the basics havenāt suddenly stopped working. š„
