🚨 DRILL OF THE WEEK: WRAP-PUCK PROTECTION PROGRESSION

⏩ SWIPE FOR DRILL! 📣 SOUND UP

This drill helps with a few different concepts, including puck protection, breakout skills, wraps, passing, shooting, and of course, scoring!

▶ Player 1 wraps the puck to Player 2 behind the net. Player 2 skates with the puck and picks it off the wall with their stick.

▶ When Player 2 gains possession they cut back to the corner facing the wall and attack the net for a jam play or reverse jam attempt.

▶ PROGRESSION: Player 1 wraps the puck to Player 2 behind the net, Player 2 protects the puck, cuts back to the corner and looks to hit Player 1 for a one-timer off the post or in the slot.

🚨 GAME ANALYSIS: POWER-PLAY DECEPTION: SELL THE SEAM!

📣 SOUND UP!

In this breakdown, we key on how deception used by the player along the half-wall forces the defending team to over-commit to the seam pass.

This opens up his teammate down low and allows for a quick touch to the bumper player for a goal.

🚨 SAG OF THE WEEK: HANGER GAME OUT OF CORNERS

📣SOUND UP

Players play with the nets in each corner.

One player must remain on his offensive side of the ice, thus creating a 3vs2 for the other team on their offensive side of the ice.

Promote offensive players hunting loose pucks and outnumbering D before they can transition.

This SAG also forces players into quick decision-making due to the more confined area the game is played in.

🚨 GAME ANALYSIS: RECOGNIZING TIME & SPACE!

📣 SOUND UP!

Coach Adam Redmond works with CAN Olympian and Pro Natalie Spooner on allowing the play to develop through "bubbling" out from behind the goal line, creating the opportunity for a higher percentage offensive play to unfold.

🚨 SAG OF THE WEEK: 5 VS 5 NEUTRAL ZONE FACE-OFF GAME!

📣SOUND UP

This neutral zone 5-on-5 game is a game of possession, support, and a game of coming to the puck.

In this particular Small Area Game, the object is to skate the puck across the red line. Starting from a face-off, players must navigate their way through traffic, and use teammates to skate the puck over the center red line.

You score points (see the diagram in slide 3) when successfully skating the puck across center ice,. Once a player skates the puck across the line, they can skate back and re-engage to try and ‘score’ again.

This game is about finding solutions without set neutral zone forechecks or set breakouts. It requires more improvisation and puck support.

Plus, players love this drill!
